It’s time we started investing in defense

They have invested in defense in the draft. Not heavily, but an acceptable amount.

I don't think they have picked the right players. They have spent nine premium picks (rounds 1-3) on defense versus four for the offense in the past five drafts. And that is not even getting into the Mo Claiborne disaster.

Pretty soon, they will need to invest in offense. A TE is needed. A WR will be needed. An additional quality OL.

Leaks pop every year and there are only so many fingers to plug holes in the dyke.

That is why you cannot depend solely on the draft. You have to utilize trades and free agency to supplement and that does not mean throw cheap money at low quality talent.

That is why our strategies, if they continue as is, will fail.

Definietly 1 tech, couple of Lbs and a saftey should be on order. Ditch marinelli so that the 1tech happens.

There's a long list of linebackers who were available and signed who - get this - actually know how to play linebacker!

Any of whom would have been better options than what Jaylon Smith is doing on the field. I don't care that they "invested a 2nd round pick" or that "he's a wonderful young man" or "the work he's done in coming back from injury". None of it changes the fact that the kid is clueless out there and a total liability.

But instead of doing anything different, they put the same struggling players out there and think "they'll get it this week". Mainly because the coaching staff has no idea what else to do.

Jaylon needs to get his bad year out the way now. I'd rather him do it now than next season.
They should've had another linebacker there. Not arguing against that. You guys make that blank statement without throwing names out there.

There was plenty of relatively cheap, free agent LB’s available this past off season. Not to mention, a draft.

It is the front offices job to find people for depth. That’s what they al get paid every handsomely to do.

When you throw out a sarcastic statement like “did you want them to trade for Ryan Shazier” it does nothing to strengthen your argument.

There is a LARGE GAP between trading for Ryan Shazier and signing Justin Durant who was retired and sitting on the couch all off season. There was many other options between those two things. And they chose to go with Durant who has done nothing this season.

Also, I can’t stand when fans say “I’d rather they play terrible this season and get it out of the way.”

The cowboys were 13-3 last year and were the #1 seed in the NFC. I don’t know about you as a fan, but I actually came into this season hoping for them to WIN GAMES and make the playoffs. I didn’t come into the season just hoping to develop young talent.

What plenty of names are you talking about?

Zach Brown, A.J. Klein, Gerald Hodges, Kevin Minter, Sean Spence, Paul Worrilow, Manti Te'o. All of whom could play MLB at a level better than what we are getting out of Smith.

But we are too worried about "progress stopping".

Their FA plan is simply based on the fact they think they are going to rock the crap out of every draft.

It doesn't work that way.

Ehh....fair enough. Zach Brown though....goodness. That would've been a nice pickup. I don't even think it's progress stopping....I think it was arrogance in Sean Lee's health. Or arrogant to think we can just ride on the offense and they will take us victory.

Some of those guys were cheap though. I think their plan was to go young and cheap and fill out with guys like Carroll. Obvious mistake.

But. In Will McClay we trust.

Or something like that.

Now you are getting it.

Arrogance is a strong word. It fits, but I think things like infectious over the top optimism and sheer laziness creep into the spectrum as well.

We overvalue the talent on this roster, each and every year.

The front office thinks like fans do. We are so good, just this close, but gosh darn our bad luck.

Let him do it in the film room and practice field, not costing this team games they can't afford to lose.

So what are you arguing then?

You guys make that blank statement without throwing names out there.

Jaylon Smith is playing so poorly that there's no need to. Ellerbe, who the Eagles picked up yesterday, would be a better option. If nothing else, the guy knows how to play linebacker at the NFL level. Right now, Jaylon Smith has no clue.

That's why there's no need to give a list of names. You can put virtually anyone with NFL experience out there and get better results. That's how bad things are with him.

We need Dez to give back money.

Irving and Lawrence deserve every penny they are going to get.

2 absolute studs.

Only the Cowboys coaches could screw up a season with a OL and DL as good as ours. We just have to be perfect everywhere with these guys coaching us.

I’m glad there is some hardcore complaining about what we did with linebacker. Because it has cost us big time.

But very few people cared this offseason.

Why?

Because they were gobbling up the rainbow sherbet the organization was spooning out in how we had a budding star in waiting with Jaylon Smith.

I still remember people just waiting on pins and needles just to get him on the field.

We can’t rely on Lee. We need to draft a lb in round 1 if he’s close to bpa
I'm not talking bout the future

I'm talking this season. But that's all 'mute', because the QB(and the coach) are ruining the Cowboys best team since 1994, really

It is a damn shame that in a year where you finally have a dominant pass rush they still can't win.

Feels like when they stick their finger to plug one hole in the dam, another one springs up somewhere else.

Over and over and over again.
