It seems JJ always brings up Ogletree in his press conferences *Merge*

Jerry's probably crossing his fingers Ogeltree can be groomed like Austin.

Not really. I mean, I think a 4th or 5th WR should be able to play special teams but looking at what Dallas has done so far this season Ogletree shouldn't have to play special teams to be active.

The team carried 5 specialists last weekend. 5 guys who do 1 thing and 1 thing only. Well, I take that back. Pretty sure I saw Buehler on punt coverage so he does 2 things. Well hold on again, Buehler also kills people for a quick laugh so he does 3 things.

Ogletree doesn't have to play special teams to be active. Dallas has plenty of guys who are 1 trick ponies. Not that I am taking anything away from them because they are all valuable except for Rossum. With him being hurt, Dallas should just let him go and carry another player.

Personally, I think Dallas needs to start getting younger players playing time. Hell, I'd go as far as to say that Dallas should have Folk deactivated at times so they can bring another player. Not often but against Oakland, why not? You can claim "any given Sunday" all you want but any team that loses to Oaklad did so because they didn't show up to begin with.

Start breaking a few guys in so when the time comes, they aren't popping their cherries in a situation where they have to play. I'd say the same goes for Hamlin's spot. Let him ride the pine a week or two. He isn't doing anything worth mentioning right now and while that is better than getting walked on like he was a month ago, you can't tell me the other Hamlin would be any worse.

Who knows. Maybe Mike Hamlin would go out there and play the position like he's getting Ken Hamlin money and if given a few snaps maybe Ogletree can find a little bit of the pre-season chemistry he had with Tony and Kitna.
I don't know who these 5 guys that do only one thing are? Obviously the kickers, punter, and long snapper, but lots of teams do that (I personally hate carrying two kickers but that's the way it is on this team).

The reason a 4th or 5th wide receiver on this team needs to play special team swell is because they aren't really a part of the offense. They are like the 7th or 8th option in the passing offense, so they aren't going to get looks.

If he can be active to play on special teams, then get some work in garbage time, that would be nice. But it's not a whole lot different than preseason imo. You can't give him reps just because he might play well.

IMO, JJ keeps mentioning him because he knows as some point in the season we're going to need him badly. As someone just threaded about, RW is not a precise route runner. And Romo is severely hindered when a WR is imprecise, or even adlibs, in his route running. Once teams start taking Miles out by shading the safety over to his side, and limit Witten with LB and SS help, Romo will be "forced" to target RW. This will be disasterous, since Romo will struggle with RW's imprecise routes. That's when we'll need Tree. He runs great routes and would become an instant security blanket for Romo. With precise route runners like Miles, Witten, and Tree on the field at the same time Romo will shine and would truely be the "Romo Friendly" offense JJ has been promising to create. RW, get used to the bench, you'll be on it by game 10.

It is Jerry's way of giving Wade a not so subtle hint.

I have been saying since week 1 to get Ogletree on the field. Romo is comfortable with him. He has good hands and good speed.

I don't care if you have to sit Roy to make room for Ogletree.

Play Ogletree!

It's not his hands or his speed that are his greatest attribute(s). It's his route running ability. Romo is dependent on his WRs being able to run precise routes. That's why Romo's balls to the WRs are on target last game, except to RW who's passes repeatedly hit him in the ankles. That's because he was adlibing his routes and not running them precisely as practiced. Tree has hands, speed, and the ability to run precise routes. The only thing we can question is can he make the necessary pre/post-snap adjustments when coverage/blitzes dictate. We'll only know that once he gets in. And when he gets in, he'll be hard to get out. The only question is going to be is how's RW going to handle another demotion. If you ask me, not well, but who cares.

Miles Austin was a gifted physical prospect who we hoped could learn the mental aspect of wide receiver.

Sky Miles needed two seasons before he could help and he's still learning all of the intricacies involved with playing wideout.

A lot of talented players can never clear the "mental" hurdle and fall by the wayside as draft busts.

Kevin Ogletree has plenty to learn, but he is way ahead of where Austin was as a rookie in terms of understanding the position and running routes.

KO is ready to play as a rookie just as Sam Hurd was.

It comes down to tweaking the game day 45 and finding a way to take Ogletree to games. He can play receiver, return kicks and run down on coverage teams.

But he isn't on Hurd's level covering kicks and punts.

I just don't know if we will ever take 5 receivers to a game the way our roster is constructed.

I know Tony Romo is very complimentary of Kevin Ogletree, but I seriously doubt he's comfortable with the rookie at this point.

Romo and Roy Williams have worked together since the off-season and they still aren't clicking yet.

Romo does not practice with Ogletree.

Starting quarterbacks just don't spend a lot of time throwing to fifth receivers. Ogletree runs with the scout team in practice against the starting defense and worked primarily with the back-up passers during the summer.

Romo throws to the guys he knows will be playing with him in games.

Ogletree is a promising rookie wideout, but the only way Romo will become comfortable with him and trust him is to practice and play with him in games.

There is no way to simulate what quarterbacks and receivers do against real opposing defenses under game conditions.

I would bet everything I have in the world it is the other way around.

Jerry is repeating what is being told to him by the offensive coaches.

Absolutely!

Jerry has always been a parrot of what he hears in the coaches meetings.

He never has a football related thought that originated in his head. :laugh2:

I do wonder since Austin is having so much success that Jerry will get on to the coaches to bring Ogletree on quicker.
