It's amazing what one season can do in terms of optimism

After the Giants eliminated us from the playoffs, we were all very disappointed but most thought we'd be capable of making a Super Bowl run in 2008.

After this year, most of us think we are going to implode next year.

The extremes . . . .

Maybe the outcome lies somewhere in between.

We're not a Super Bowl calibre team right now, in my opinion, with all of our issues.

But, if we can cut a few bad apples (which we're in the process of doing), not sustain as many injuries as last year, upgrade our Special Teams (which should occur), form some type of identity on offense (more balanced offense) - which should lead to fewer turnovers . . . .

we could at least be a playoff team.

I said it right after our playoff loss to Giants last year... I thought that maybe that game could be the "tuck game" catalyst of sorts for the Giants. The Pats went on to their Dynasty and Raiders went back to black hole.

Look at us now. No playoffs. Organization in disarray.

Oh, and... the Giants are trying for back to back SB's.

One season? How about two weeks?

You couldn't convince me after the Giants game we weren't making the playoffs.
You also couldn't convince me we didn't have a decent shot to make the SB.

But we didn't.

Once again we came up smallest in the biggest spots and it's HARD to look on or even find the bright side.

However, the 2009 football season will happen.

And when you look at the 2009 Cowboys objectively, you're probably going to have to like thier chances more than most teams.

Yes... my point is the dynasty started and the collapse of the Raiders soon followed.

Not every analogy is scripted to be exactly as the example.

Bottom line: Giants are in position... and we are "assuming the position" - not good.

Lets all be real about this. We have the talent. And like you said, if we stay healthy, we can be a force. This year was an aberration. Too much talent to not make the playoffs and make a run at a ring.

I keep saying this, but I think everyone in this organization learned alot after this disaster of a season. Can only help them going forward.

I dont think this season was an abberation at all.

I think it was a continuation of last year except we didnt get lucky and win some games we were supposed to lose.

Injuries are part of the game... but we CLEARY did not lose 3 or 4 games because of injury. It was on the players on the field.

Nothing is guaranteed about next season.

Remember... after the Seattle loss... the next season was supposed to be "Unfinished Business"

Then that season arrived and we lost to Giants... so the next season was "Unfinished Business"....

So nothing is a given.... we could be in real trouble... especially if Wade is STILL HC come the start of camp.

You may very well be right. However, I just dont see it. I think we only grow from this, not flounder

And as TC opens in 2009...we will be saying..this is our year, we are healthy and let's make a SB run.

Even the Lions fans with be ethusiastic right before TC.

It's the NFL 'rose color glasses' effect and cycle right before the season.

I look at it this way?

Did Cardinals fans think they'd be here after going 8-8?
Did Carolina after going 7-9?
How about Baltimore after going 5-11?

It's a year to year league, and looking at our personnel you habe to think we are playooff contenders in 2009.

Yeah not looking to be right though...

I think the defense was coming on... the offense and its woes could be the abberation you were speaking of... so I may agree there.

The team as a whole... I dunno...

The Raiders were an extremely old team. That's why they collapsed. Lack of stability and a lack of committment to stay with a rebuilding plan has led to that team struggling for the past 6 years.

Just because you make an analogy doesn't make it a good analogy.

They were CLEARLY crushed by that loss. Thats my only point re: Raiders. You can read and interweave what you want.... totally fine with that...........

So basically the only thing in common is they both lost in the divisional playoffs. Gotcha.

The Raiders were so crushed they made the Super Bowl the next year.

The Tuck game was not why the Raiders collapsed. It would have happened regardless.

It's the equivalent of saying the 90s Boys collapsed due to the loss to Carolina in 1996, when we know there were deeper issues than that.

Did anybody really think that we were Superbowl bound this year?

I didn't.

On the flip side I didn't think we would totally implode either. :explode:

If the team attitude, determination and desire aren't there, the talent level doesn't mean much. It's hard to motivate people who already have what they wanted (money).

It's those who don't have it yet who work harder for it.

Catapulted Pats
Catapulted Giants

That is all.
