I remember it well. I was in my first year with a new job, and still getting used to the situation. My wife had left town for a conference in Phoenix, and of course, she was stuck there with all airline traffic grounded. After getting my youngest daughter taken care of with her grandmother, I drove from Lubbock To Phoenix. God bless my boss, who gave me "as many days as you need" to bring her home. It took me about 16 hours, arriving at her hotel at 4:00 the next morning.
I had the talk and news radio on all the way out there. This was before XM launched their first satellite, so I was listening to local stations, constantly changing channels all the way. I remember the hysteria that was prevalent in those first hours of uncertainty, and travelling from region to region, I was really taken back by the fear a lot expressed that something more was still coming.
When I arrived at her hotel, the newstand was just opening. On one of their racks was the late edition of the previous day's New York Times (I think), with the big bold headline "*******S!".
God bless the victims, their families, and our nation. Let us never forget.
