its been 7 years

I remember it well. I was in my first year with a new job, and still getting used to the situation. My wife had left town for a conference in Phoenix, and of course, she was stuck there with all airline traffic grounded. After getting my youngest daughter taken care of with her grandmother, I drove from Lubbock To Phoenix. God bless my boss, who gave me "as many days as you need" to bring her home. It took me about 16 hours, arriving at her hotel at 4:00 the next morning.

I had the talk and news radio on all the way out there. This was before XM launched their first satellite, so I was listening to local stations, constantly changing channels all the way. I remember the hysteria that was prevalent in those first hours of uncertainty, and travelling from region to region, I was really taken back by the fear a lot expressed that something more was still coming.

When I arrived at her hotel, the newstand was just opening. On one of their racks was the late edition of the previous day's New York Times (I think), with the big bold headline "*******S!".

God bless the victims, their families, and our nation. Let us never forget.

It's impressive to me that we haven't been hit again in seven years. Credit goes to a lot of people, including some at the top who aren't very popular these days.

Anyway, this is good use of the materials ...

I didn't know that had been done. That's pretty darn cool.

I'm in DC. The worst part was hanging up on my mother because we were all told to hustle towards the basement of our office building. If you had family members in NY or DC and they were out of contact, all you could do is sit and worry.

I was filling in doing a local radio talk show that morning via sat from NY. After being on radio and/or tv for 19 consecutive hours I had a moment to pause once I got into my car. That's when it all hit me. I guess it's true when they say it's best to stay busy when dealing with tragedy.

I'll never forget and I hope you all won't either. Anyone interested in doing their part to help stop funding terrorist nations with our $700 billion a year we spend on foreign oil please visit www.pickensplan.com and be sure to register. This plan has the ear of McCain, Obama and dozens of US Senators and Congressman. The more people that register the more politicians will get the message that Americans want to put an end to our addiction to foreign oil.

LOL At first I was going to say something smart, but that would be coming strictly from emotion, so I will just say.

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND BLESS THOSE THAT KEEP US SAFE

I was living in NY at the time and driving to work, listening to Scott & Todd on WPLJ. They said there was an accident and a plane had hit the tower. As they were talking, the second plane hit and Todd says, "This is not an accident! This is a terrorist attack!"

I got in and everyone was in shock. It was quiet, and people were making phone calls, trying to reach their spouses that were on trains into the city.

I remember the phones were not ringing at all, and I had to call out to reach my family and let them know I was fine. They said they had been trying to call but all lines were busy.

I called my best friend who lived in the city but could never reach her. She lived around 79th Street, but at that time we had no idea what was going to happen next.

It turned out that she was already on her way out toward Connecticut for work that day and hadn't turned on the radio until she saw them blocking all inbound traffic.

We watched the tv in the gym and saw the towers come down.

She ended up being marooned at my place for a few days because they were not letting anyone back into Manhattan.

Scary times.

I was working for the Department of Defense at that time at Hill AFB. The base came under immediate alert and it took around 2 hours to finally get off base after normal work shift, and harder to even get on base for those that were not already at work.

Security around the base and security in general at all military bases changed drastically since that day. Sad day indeed...and as another poster has said, "the payback has not come yet...but soon it will, one way or the other".

Woah, that is crazy Hostile. I'm sure your heart must have been RACING!

With that said, I too remember it like yesterday. No cell phones, nothing but the radio, until I got home and watched the planes hit. It was a very sad day and one we will all never forget. RIP.

sort of puts a football game into perspective, does it not?

God bless those who died and give strength to those who cried and are still crying.

I remember being out at the back of my yard, chipping golf balls on the evening of 9/11, after all air traffic had been shut down.

I saw a very big, all white airplane, flying relatively low as it went overhead.
I always wondered who was in that plane.

Yep. Without a doubt.

Now, is this EVER really the correct forum for soccer-related topics? Heck no.

:)

Let me tell you: it's very unnerving to hear an F-16 zipping across the city at low altitude.

In that city I imagine it would be. I get it all the time here, but usually it is A-10's. On occasion we get other fighter planes through here. My office is right by the flight line for Davis Monthan AFB. A couple of days ago I actually saw a U2 spy plane leaving. Probably on the way to an air show somewhere. I had never seen one except in pictures. It was kind of cool to see it.

It was eery to not see any flights for that week after 9/11. Not even military flights for the most part.

:laugh2: Yeah, right!

I live right benieth the flight line of Hill AFB...! Try hearing those damn things (5 or 6 at a time) come right over your house twice a day heading to the bombing range. You want some noise? You want unnerving? You want to try and HEAR THE DAMN TV?

Hill AFB is a maintenance depot so I get to hear all kinds of planes from F-16's, Warthogs, Stealth Bombers, B-52's...you name it, I hear it every freaking day.

Some B1 Stealth's (and more) were stationed a the AFB in town and when they came in for landing it was very impressive to see one that up close. I can't imagine seeing one of those headed right for me knowing I was in his crosshairs.

After a while, I guess it becomes background noise. I personally cannot get to sleep if it's perfectly quiet. I need the white noise machine.
