The thing that everyone doesn't seem to realize, until they hear things like Dom Capers turning up his nose at Purcells, is that "established" guys don't want to work for Purcells, unless they have no other options. The scary thing for me is if you look at the quality of our coaching staff, it's not that great. Who on our staff can step in as our next HC? That's why all this talk about not wanting start over that people are using as an excuse to keep Purcells around this year annoys me. Guess what folks, we'll be starting over again after next year. Since I don't see BP taking us to the SuperBowl next year, I'm fine with starting over sooner rather than later.

totally agree...good post

2007 will probably be another 9-7 debacle, and we'll probably still see people defending Parcells and wanting him back... I can see it now:

"hey we're on the right track!!!"...
"another winning season!!!"
"dont mess with whats working!!!"...
"remember Dave Campo and 5-11???"

I have to say that I haven't been this depressed about the state of the team in a long time, with the specter of Bill returning. It's only gotten worse since last Saturday's debacle in Seattle. I was one of those fans who was extremely jacked up when BP was hired and was so pumped up for this season. I didn't expect a SuperBowl, but expected a good regular season performance and playoff run. What I've come to realize is that Purcells is a shell of his former self and he just doesn't have "it" any longer.

He's stocked the cupboard (thanks Bill), but it's time for him to go watch the horse races.

Skin,

Man you summed it up for me. When people tell me all the great things that BP has done in the league and it beats 5-11 I say, yes I agree that is great. But, we are not competative in our own division. We have two joke outcomes for playoff games and we finish the last month of every season like we are not interested.

To me this comes from the differrence between what BP says and then what he does. He says things like; "I want MY guys". "Who is going to hold the fort with me?". "Who's all in?". And then at the end of every season, when the players, coaches, organization, and fans ask BP, "Hey are you fired up for next year?" "Are we going to make a big push next year Coach Parcells?" He says; "I'll have to get back to you on that when I figure out if I have the energy to do my job properly".

Sweet baby jesus! You think that players don't recognize that he fails to demonstrate the commitment that he demands of them? Leadership is about developing followers by setting an example of honor. What honor has BP demonstrated here? Unless you're his accountant I doubt you see any.

I do respect what he has done in the game and I understand that he is headed to the HOF. That can't be minimized. What this team really needs is a younger coach who is willing to work his tail off and demonstrate his commitment to building a winning culture over the long haul. This creates an atmosphere of hope and provides a stable base to build from.

Instead, we get this annual crap of BP trying to decide what he wants to do. Hey, if you have to ask if you have what it takes, I doubt you have it. Now, we are being told that our new DC will come in house and may be split by two assistants. Aren't these two assistants the same guys that helped build the defensive games plans every week too? That is comforting. Make it stop mommy!

Man alive people need to chill out and stop freaking out...for the record I do not mean ALL people here.

oh_noes.jpg

We will find out when we find out.

This was in his contract, or an understanding between him and jerry, that he had this time and he could use every second of it if he wanted to use them.

We will find out in the next few days. We may not like the decision but we will find out soon.

I don't care for the time he takes.

But to be honest I have the direct opposite opinion of yours.

I would rather have a coach of his age and time in the NFL to take some time and figure out if he has it in him to go another year.

I know this is a world of NOW NOW NOW but sorry I would rather get the guy to make sure before saying he is rah rah ready to go only to change his mind in two or three days.

Because I know darn well that with the way people react anymore if he said Rah Rah I am ready to go and so on in a snap decision...if he changed his mind in a few days and said so people would rag on him even more calling him a liar and any other thing.

If a person is going to commit to the team for next year, think about it and make sure. I will not fault the guy for that.

I may find fault in other areas, but that is not one of them.

People just get so fired up and expect everything to be now now now in todays world...sometimes it is better to wait a little and see how things work out.

On a serious note...With some things in life I am far from being a patient person, in other things I can be patient beyond even my own expectations.

However there is one thing that happens when you are impatient...normally it will not alter the outcome of those things you have no bearing on or control over...it only takes it's toll on you and makes things seem worse.

Brainpaint,

Fair enough. I am not sure that my reaction is just me being impatient and negative (although I can be both of those things). BP may well come back and we learn that this past season was an abberation. The talent may take hold regardless of who the DC is and BP could ride off in the sunset with a SB appearance. If that happens I would be thrilled.

I do think your point about holding my water until he makes a decision is valid and I will adopt that approach. No more tirades about BP from me until we learn more. Promise. I will hope that what every happens is for the best of the team. Peace.

You can make your tirades guy...this is a message board and we express our opinions...as long as they fall within the guidelines.

Just because mine is different than yours does not mean you have to hold your tongue...or in this case tape your fingers.:p:

I can see your, and others, point of view.

I just am going to hold out a little and see what happens.

I have no illusions that I am going to be thrilled...but man alive this season has been so up and down and emotionally tiring I just don't have it in me to get irate right now.:laugh1:

Brainpaint,

I only promised not to complain about BP. That still leaves our lack of a coverage safety, our inability to convert 3 and 1 and a lack of a consistent pass rush besides DWare! :)

Hey - I think it can work, and work well. For such an evil dictator, he sure did allow alot of hands in the offensive pie this year, and I REALLY enjoyed that. So I am really hopeful Bowles and Pasqualoni get the job, and do the job well. I like Bowles.

I am pretty sure it will work. I hope it gets the chance.

Are you ALWAYS this optimistic? If so, I'd like to hire you as a salesperson for my company. I've never seen a successful pessimistic sales person but with your optimism, we could rule the world.

If that's what really going to work, then so be it... I'm so ready for something that will work... That will bring back the pats on the back and good positive press.

I'm just so SICK and TIRED of this team dying off in December it's not even funny... Two years and counting. There is no ability to adjust, at least none that I saw...

If this team is 12-0 at the end of next November, everybody is going to say, well let's wait until the season is over, THEN we'll count the chips after that...

You watch and see, the dreaded December slip will be brought up next season. Book it.

Well...I think BP does deserve criticisms and some complaints from fans.

But I don't mind him taking a few days to figure out what he is going to do. I would rather it be quick but I would also rather him make sure first.

I agree. I also feel that Jerry and Bill discussed this ahead of time that Bill would take some time off to think about it so this is not some shocking surprise that Bill is pulling or that he is leaving Jerry hanging. Both men knew what the deal was ahead of time.

For a guy who is ONLY 4 games over .500 in four years, I don't understand the loyalty to him from some fans.

In a more charitable view, I would say that, yes, he's had a great run (elsewhere) and is a HOF lock.

Having said that, he's tired and disinterested and just wants to bad-mouth players unless they are from the Jets or one of his old teams. He wears down his players emotionally and they just flat-out gave up on him. He's gotta go. Soon.
