Have a real GM who was able to work deals to dump guys like Maxwell and Murray and stem some of the salary cap bleeding.
Well Murray went on to have a pretty damn good year last year and they could have used him.

Bradford did as well.

Just a tad dramatic Z :D

But, I agree that the offseason plan backfired. Dallas just went 13-3 with HFA. I think it would have been wise to add a few missing pieces via FA and go for the title. Instead, they revamp the whole secondary and lose two cogs from our offensive line wheel. Too much, too fast IMO.

One step forward, two steps back seems par for the course. I don't understand how when you are that close, the FO decides to blow it up. It is not like we squeeked into the playoffs. Retool and take a shot not go in an opposite direction!
They lucked out last year, and assumed that they were smarter than they were.

Doesn't seem to be hurting them this year. They run the ball fine. And they weren't winning squat last year with Murray.

They also weren't making the playoffs with Bradford either. Turning him into a first round pick was a smart move.

The FO went from big daddy warbucks to scrooge mcduck. We're not as limited by bad contracts as we used to be, but unfortunately, we're doing nothing with the savings.
Bestest play pen in the league, by a factor of ten. Daddy happy, wife and daughter decorate.

How Philly was able to recover after the Chip Kelly debacle, who shipped away all their talent and locked them into some bad contracts, shows what a REAL GM can do. On the other hand, we blow up our secondary, make a rookie lb coming off of a year long injury a prominent part of the defense and you wonder why our defense sucks

Not looking great but anythings possible.

I had said it during the offseason and my opinion hasn't really changed, this year was going to be a year we prep more for the future. We have a lot of young guys on the DL and in the secondary, we probably needed to see how Dak would do and who he could actually work with going forward, etc.

So we can actually see what we have and what we need, so we can allocate salary cap dollars in FA most efficiently for Dak and this OL's career. If we went and signed an expensive guy on the DL and one of the 5 young DL we had stepped up, i'd feel pretty stupid. It was a DB heavy draft, were we able to actually get some starters out of it? What if Jaylon plays better at the end of the year?

This is really the first offseason where we're going to have a lot of cap. Dak is in Year 2, now we can see the biggest needs for this team going into year 3 and 4 of his contract, and years beyond that.

I don't think anyone really *expected* this though and the interior DL sucks. We were still expected to be a heavy playoff favorite. I'll be less disappointed *if* it's a down year (still a long season left) if we actually get some damn players this offseason with our space.

*Disclaimer: This is similar to how I would have approached the last 2 years of Dak/Zeke's contracts and may not be the actual plan. And I know it's probably not a popular opinion, but I'd have gone a little cheap for one year (that we were still expected to go deep in the playoffs), to get everything situated with Dak.

Front office blew it, but who is surprised?
I'm surprised. I thought they were making baby steps in the right direction. I thought with Jerry in his later years, that there would be some urgency this offseason to win now for he gipper

Hmmm.

So we have one good, but old LB and maybe one good DT.

Almost there!
Lol I'm sure Jerry's convinced the D just needs a healthy Sean Lee to come save the day.
I do like Woods at S personally He might be a player.
Collins needs to be more consistent but i think a big fatty 1T would help out tremendously.

Maybe in a way this is a good thing. This season may painfully highlight shortcomings in personnel and coaching.

Even Jerry has to be wondering how his 13-3 team on the cusp of greatness just got lapped in 10 months by a division rival who stunk last year.
