It's official: Jerry Jones and others do lie on the record.

Throughout the T.O. saga, we've been told what people say on-the-record was the truth. Jerry Jones told us T.O. wasn't the source of internal conflict. He's told us that members in his organization weren't lobbying him to release T.O. He and others told us there was no locker room division.

And T.O. defenders would point to these comments as validation that they contained truth compared to sourced material which they denounced as false or fabricated.

I guess we've come to discover that people can lie on the record too.

Jerry Jones lied yesterday when he said cutting TO had nothing to do with chemistry and it was a strategy move.

I hope for the sake of the Dallas Cowboys it wasn't a strategy move to give the guy a new 4 year deal and pay him 9 mill to play for someone else next year when he can still play at a very high level.

The thought was fully formed.

People lie on the record. Conclusion: just because someone tells you something on the record doesn't mean he's being truthful.

Additional conclusion: common sense often rings truer than what someone says. If the dots are connecting but someone tells you to listen to their words rather than the logical dots, that should give you cause for pause.

Lie, half truth most around the league in Jerry position are no different. They are not going to lay it all out on the table.

True. But the way you get around this is to have a policy where you only talk in certain venues. That way, a no-comment is sufficient, and people can't guess whether you're lying or not.

That's why many organizations (as much as I hate this as a reporter) have their leaders/employees speak only during press conferences. That way, all the talking is done in one forum.

But if you're always talking at every event, in every situation, it's easier to develop a pattern of how you communicate truth, and lies. And when you operate differently from what your pattern suggests, then it gives some indication of the truthfulness of your statements.

It is still an assumption that he lied. Until someone, or Jerry Jones himself, contradicts what he said, you are ASSuming. It may be a reasonable ASSumption, but it is still an ASSumption. Only mediots assert speculation as truth. As a side note, I have yet to hear ONE teammate confirm any of the rumors (see Ed Werder) about TO being divisive. So does that make everyone on the team a liar too since they won't "admit" what you KNOW?? TO may be a 14kt you know what for all I know...and I probably know about as much as anybody else outside that team. Please don't take the "connect the dots" approach and call it fact or call someone an outright liar over perception. It actually could be that JJ has invested SO much into Roy Williams that he felt that he should cut bait and go w/the younger one...at least he said that was the reason and for all we know....it could be the truth just as easy as it could be a lie

Why? Why is important to you that Jerry put it all out on the table? He is dealing with other egos and many GM, owners and coaches walk around the truth quite often Jerry is no different than any of them when it comes to the art of lies, half truths, PC comments and dancing around questions. When they ask Jeff Fisher about Vince Young oh his future is bright with us but we will continue to Collins? is he telling the truth or he is dancing around the truth so he does not have to contend with an upset player. Lets don't pretent any of these type of comments are isolated to Jerry Jones.

It's not. My thread was in response to the endless comments about "Jerry said it so it must be so. Jerry publicly acknowledged he wouldn't do this or that so that's better than these anonymous sources."

Never said Jerry Jones is the only one who does it. But since this is a Cowboys forum, and I'm a Cowboys fan, and I have been engaged in this running discussion ... oh, well, you can do the math.

There can be any number of reasons why Jerry Jones intentionally misdirected everyone about the club's intention to cut TO. But he did time it for after the probowl, after the crush of FA, and during a week when the papers will be talking only about the Cowboys. The misdirection last week only makes the story more interesting.
