I spent the first 17 years of my life growing up in the Philly suburbs. Eagles fans galore. Nary a Cowboys fan in sight.

In 1992, I moved up to Wilkes-Barre, PA to go to college. For those of you who don't know, Wilkes-Barre in the 90s was referred to as the "arm pit of PA". Lots of coal crackers up there. Burly men and women. On the weekends, we would go to the mall and all I would see were the dudes getting out of their Iroc Z's wearing the Apex Cowboys Jackets. They were everywhere! Everyone was a Cowboys fan. But were they for real? Did their Apex jacket unzipped and pulled off of their shoulders make them a fan? I did not question their loyalty. I simply put my fandom gear away in my closet and never made eye contact.

Now it's 2017. I work in a small, crappy town in NJ. A town that is eerily similar to Wilkes-Barre in the 1990s. As this season wore on, the "Cowboys Fans" are beginning to rear their ugly heads once again. I am seeing Cowboys gear being worn by the "townies" everyday.

This story has no meaning. Nor do I know why I wrote it. I am just impressed that I was able to use the word "nary" in a sentence.

For all you young-ans, below is the famous Cowboys Apex Jacket of the 90s. Behold it's beauty! If you are lucky enough to own one, please wear it correctly: Unzipped 3/4 of the way and pulled off of your shoulders.

I have driven through Wilkes Barre around 6 times, never stopped. This was 2000-2001, when I went back and forth between CT & OH over a 9 month time frame.
Or I should say, I nary stopped there. LOL.

I never had one of those jackets, but have one similar. Can't remember when and where I got it though. As I have many jackets now.

I remember that jacket :)

Mike Francesca said the Cowboys have the most fair weather fans. I'm inclined to think he might be right.

I wear a Dallas Cowboys cap all winter long.
When an opposing fan tries to give me flack I say all of the following....

"I am a Dallas Cowboys fan... win, lose or draw.... good or bad.
I never change my team.
I'm not like you guys who only wear your gear when your team is winning or buy new gear of a new team.
Again, I never change my team.
I always have my hat on during the winter, during football season."

"Now, go get your fudging shine box"

PS. I bought this varsity leather and wool Dallas Cowboys 5-time Super Bowl jacket. All the patches are multi layered hand cut leather. I'll post a picture later. This was wayyyyy back in 2006. No "popular" internet. Webpages were..... well, pages... big images.... text was under image.... no formatting. No shopping cart.

So, I callled and said I want the jacket. It was on sale for $399 from $699.
Woman said, sorry that sale is over. I said I printed the page with the today's date.
She said, no problem. It will take 3 months to make. They were custom created. Since then the idea has been copied.

I can't wait to add 6th super bowl patch!

I have an all leather 5 times SB champions jacket. Star on back cut and in-layed, some embroidered text, and the patches of each SB. Even if we add a 6th, I'll still wear it, and when someone says it is out dated...I'll smile and say, yes, isn't it great....
I wear my Cowboys hat every where I go, and have gone, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and never cared what comments anyone said if a bad comment, as I usually had a good comeback, or sometimes would just smile and say nothing. as they already made an arse of themselves. Most people were respectful that I would wear it. But you always get a few idiots.

If we win 6th.... I am adding 6th patch to the jacket!

I'm buying two patches. Sending you one ;-)
And yes, I'm serious!

Here is the one I bought in 1996 "on line" before it was really "online" lol

If you look at the 4th picture... they custom cut EVERYTHING, Every little letter from a piec of leather.
Some of the logos are 4 layers of leather.

I mention it because I love the attention to detail and work involved when its done this way. :)

I have no idea why this is stored away in the memory bank but I always remember the Apex commercial with Jimmy Johnson. Well that one and the Nike commercial with Dennis Hopper talking about Troy Aikman.

I was thinking of same video.

Jimmy looks like "A BOSS"!

Cool story. I was going to college in Williamsport, PA at the same time. It was the first time I witnessed the "Cowboys Bandwagon" effect in my lifetime. All of a sudden, Cowboys gear everywhere.

I'm pretty sure Jimmy Johnson wore one of those or one similar during his tenure. Maybe even during one of the Superbowl games.

I still have that same jacket up in my attic, but the elastic on the sleeves has quit.
