its been a few days since the "embarassing" loss to Tampa. I have time to rewatch part of the game and my mind hasn't changed. I apologize in advance for the long thread.

this team drank their own koolaid and thought, they just show up and score 40 on Tampa. they forgot this is NFL and everyone fights like heck, for their careers and their jobs. Dak said as much, "this is one game we were supposed to win". that tells me everything I wanted to know. you were not prepared and it showed.

they weren't ready for tampa, they got bowled over, rolled over and spanked. this starts at the top with Schotty. he wasn't ready with the right game plan. he got surprised with the blitzes and adjusted very late. the worst thing that could have happened.... happened, we marched down on first drive and score a TD....so their mind got set, yep this is going to be easy.

and then they got punched in the mouth and couldn't recover.

I know people want to blame Dak and yes, I blame him too. he had a horrible game, but so did the coaches, the game plan was awful, defense played bad, fergi was awful, running game sucked, special teams was anything but special. don't even get started on defense and their 240 yards rushing they gave up and the penalties extending drives.

which brings me to my point (yeah I know a bit long winded). this is a cultural issue in dallas. it starts at the very top with Jerry. he sets the tone for the whole organization. we are not focused on football, we are focused on putting on a "show". with him landing his helicopter in the middle of practice field, and the work out rooms have windows that visitors can watch players workout like penguins in a zoo. and the constant interuptions of jerry bringing friends to meet the players and him getting into business with players. it all sets a bad bad bad tone.

Jerry is the GM, not necessarily because he enjoys being it, although at this point his ego won't allow him to relinquish the role, but it gives him maximum air time, so he can sell sell sell and give sound bites. he said it himself, no news is bad foor the cowboys as long as they are in the news.

and we see that with coaches and players (ala Dak) who give sound bites. and sell sell sell. that's the culture of the cowboys. I hated, absoutley hated when Dak told Stafford last year after joint practices we see you in the NFC championship game...really!!!! really!!! that's drinking your own koolaid.....confidence is good, stupidity is not. or this year telling Q, I will get you to the playoffs, but you all got to help us win some games. well it doesn't look so good. does it?

there are two athletes ever allowed to run their mouth, because they could back it up. Deion and Jordan. the rest of you, just shut the hell up.

so we saw that entitlement, that drink the koolaid. that its all good, we are good...the attitude in this tampa game. like I said, coaches weren't ready. Dak looked bad. fergi sucked. OL couldn't protect. and I am not even going to talk about defense, because its self explantory.

this franchise will not win anything under Jerry's control. many have said that. at this point he can't change. he is the ultimate salesman and as a salesman he has done great. cowboys are most profitable. highest valued franchise by a mile. and he won't do what's necessary to win a championship, given he hires cheap coaches. he has salary cost controls in place like salary cap, so he doesn't even care who gets what. its all capped. he keeps coaches beyond their usefulness, because he doesn't want to pay salary of someone that's not going to be there. Garrett, McCarthy and Schotty is here to stay for 4 years.

mediocrity equals highest profitability. championships are expensive. reduce profits. expensive coaches, too much cash for FAs, giving up control.....sucking really bad, costs revenue (so when we do, he reacts like change coaches to keep fans interested). so happy medium is mediocrity. keeps fans interested. keeps them engaged. keeps them coming back. being close is more important than actually being good. its been working for 30 years. so why change.

this loss hurt bad, because it showed the worst of the cowboys. the losses in 24 or 25 didn't bother me, because the opposition was the better team, we just couldn't compete. we weren't any good.

but this game reminded me of the playoff loss to GB, they thought they show up to that game and win and it was exactly the same, different coaches. nobody was ready for that game and I remember williams had plans for a post game victory party!!!! and so in over 3 years, we haven't learned. and that's the culture.

Here I am thinking (more like hoping) that Parker is some wunderkind that would come in here and be the next hot coordinator.

Not so long afterward, they have to bring in dudes off their couch to help him.

No, it’s never going to get good. I think Jerry Jones is a terrible human who has done some bad things to many people. That catches up. We get to go along for the ride.
