both the defensive and offensive lines. we are weak in both places.
with that said, after wade and all the bad drafts jerry led in that era, we had lots and lots of holes to fill. entire OL, entire DL, couple of LBs. entire secondary. depth at WR. RB.
so realizing that, I think we started to build the team. however, typical jerry we have gone for some bling in WRs and DBs. we have added some LBs (lee, carter). but we have not addressed neither of the lines. we have drafted one OL in first round and signed one high end FA OL man (davis). in the past 15+ years.
and that's where all our troubles are. I don't have to rehash the OL problems. a Miami dolphin reject is our starting center. the guy in front of him was a UDFA. we signed to rejects from two other teams.
on the DL we have rat, whose sole asset was speed and relentlessness. now with age and being undersized taking a pounding for years, he is injured and probably has lost a step in his one big asset. our DEs are a joke.
in contrast some of the other teams that are superbowl contenders spent money on FAs and premium draft picks on the lines.
until that happens. we are going to be what we are. which is an average team.
I am not ready to finalize judgement. I realized long ago that this team is not as talented as everyone here thinks and sets their expectations. we have some pockets of talent but not enough support in the right places. lets see what happens over the next year. that will be the tell-tale sign.
I don't blame the coaches. JG, Parcells, Wade, Switzer, etc. all have had similar result. outside of campo who really sucked. we have not had success with any coaches because Jerry is going after short term solutions instead of long term success.
jerry is a marketing and business man at heart. he knows telling the fan base that we suck this year but in 3 years we will be great wouldn't sell tickets. he is only looking one year ahead and how he can market this team. he creates hope. sells tickets and does the same thing year in year out.
until he retires. this is who were are. a .500 team who won't spend or focus on where you really need to build a team and that's on the lines on both sides of the ball
