It's time for rebuild lets be honest.

Chiefs, niners, Seahawks, colts and the panthers look like they're heading in that direction to name recent few.

I don't think there's any definition of the term that would consider the Colts a "rebuild".

Obviously, there's some flexibility to what the term means. Some of these teams have been miserable for a LONG time. The 49ers missed the playoffs for NINE years in a row. That's a rebuild? That's what you want to sit through?

To me, a rebuild is like, well... what we did. Bottomed out to 1-15. Drafted well. Steady improvement. 3 wins, 7, 11, 13 BOOM! That's a rebuild even I could live with.

On defense we have been rebuilding, but we did so outside, in. We need to address the Dline as a whole. I know some say we need to get rid of Ware, but before we do, can we get him a legit compliment first? We put a lot on him in pass rush.

Our secondary is young and with that will come growing pains. We have press corners and we need to use them in that manner.

On offense we are off to a good start with Smith and Frederick. Leary has actually been good and my only concern is the knee issue. I would like to see us address both guard positions to solidly this line.

Receivers are young and will be around for a few years to come.

RB's: we need to either use them or lose them. We are inconsistent in a running attack because we can't get them on the field due to injuries. Each back brings certain attributes we can use, but we fail to use them to our advantage. We need to look at how we approach this area, along with others philosophically.

QB: Romo is the man and I won't lose faith due to a bad game. However, we need to groom his replacement.

Most bandwagon fans are on board with "rebuilding" because they can tune out (as bandwagon fans tend to do) until the team is a winner again. No skin off their back.

Let's play a game: you name all of the teams who have "rebuilt" and became a contender, and I will name all of the teams who rebuilt and never stopped. Who will have the bigger number?

Broncos too

Rebuild is a rebuild wether it takes 3 years or 5 years. All the teams that I've named have rebuilt their franchises. What I feel your talking about is a team that is 2-3 players away, and we're not that.

No, they all have not rebuilt their franchises, and a rebuild is not successful if it takes nine years. I'm sorry to break it to you. I'm sure in fifteen years when the Jaguars make the playoffs you will feel like that is a rebuild too. The 49ers belong on the list of teams that did NOT rebuild successfully.

You are suggesting that we scrap most of our best players, retain only the young talent, bring in a new everything in the coaching department, and build from the ground up. None of the teams you mentioned did that, except for possibly the Chiefs (I have to think about that one). Just because the 49ers eventually got it right with Harbaugh doesn't mean that I imagined Singletary and the other's nine years of crap.

To me, a rebuild is: (in order)

1. find the right GM
2. have the right GM hire the coach
3. Find a young QB that you think fits what you're going to do.
4. make smart choices to fill out your roster with mainly young guys that will be at their best in 3-4 years.
If you have # 1.....then the other steps will happen.

Starting over is the way to go. Unfortunately, we're stuck with this core for another 4 years minimum so it will continue to be seasons full of 7 to 9 wins. Just enough to convince some people that we're good enough to make a run every year.

Your definition is much better than mine. However I would add as a number 5: do not take ten years to do it! :D

right. Thats why I said be at their best in 3-4 years. It doesnt take a long time to turn around an NFL team anymore....which is why one playoff win in 16 years or whatever is a disgrace. San Fran's mistake was they messed up step # 2.

any starting over has to start with a new coaching staff and a new QB....period.
Love Romo to death and all, but if he wins a playoff game before he retires I'll be surprised.

Can that be with another tesm?????

Rebuild. Definitely. Problem is, for Jerry that means drafting more skill players instead of building from the inside out.

Niners did it with their o-line, Panthers did it with their front seven.

Oh and get a real coach, not a cheerleader.

There's no time to rebuild. The NFL is dying in a sea of coming litigation, so you have to go all in now. I'm not interested in the game they'll be trying to sell us in a few years.

Rebuilding in the NFL is a myth. Teams just draft, get free agents, change coaches until the find sucess, what team actually tanks to get better? That was some rebuild the Colts did, one year turn around. The Chiefs just got a new coach/QB. The Seahawks fortunes turned around with a 3rd round QB that started due to injury. The Jags have been in constant reboot for what seems like a decade. When is the last time a NFC East team was in full rebuild mode?

I have to agree with your comments. Players nearing the age 30 should not be resigned. Build up the lines through the draft and get the salary cap in order.

133-133 is our record since '97.

Whatever were doing is not working. Keep the YOUNG core players and start the rebuild process with Gruden ( previously said wants another crack at coaching).

Players to build around:

Dez
Claiborne
Carr
Lee
Tyron
Fredrick

Everyone else can be chopped liver for all that matters.

Gruden is the last coach I want for a rebuild and Jerry Jones is last GM I want. We're stuck with one lets not make it 2 for 2.

If we weren't so mediocre there are at least two Franchise Qbs in the 2014 NFL Draft that could change the game.... not that it would matter with the Dallas GM.
