Flozell Adams has looked pretty stiff at times the past two weeks, but I don't think the staff has it in them to deliver "an improve or else" ultimatum and Jerry Jones would have to be on board with it.
The staff placates veterans and shies away from using younger players, often until given no choice.
We'd have no idea about Tashard Choice if not for injuries last season. Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick needed cornerbacks to go down or get suspended to earn early playing time. We'd still be wondering about Miles Austin's potential if Roy Williams wasn't hurt.
We tend to completely exhaust our starting outside 'backers even after Victor Butler showed some potential with two late sacks against Carolina.
The only way Doug Free, a player we need to find out about this season, will get on the field is for the Hotel to get hurt badly enough to allow it.
And that's a shame.
Flo is a warrior, but he looks to be slowing down, even though the bye week will undoubtedly help.
Even starting Adams shouldn't prevent Free from getting some snaps, we don't even have to alternate them.
We play plenty of double tight end sets and there's no reason Free couldn't report as an eligible player and line up next to Adams.
It would give us a "run" look, but Jason, Witten, Roy Williams, Miles Austin and a running back would still be pass options.
Want to keep a tight end in to pass protect? No problem.
We could get film on a player we need to evaluate and not hurt Adams' feelings, which seems to be a priority at Valley Ranch.
