Money is always important to a company, but price gouging customers is a different story. Apple is like high fashion. It is far more expensive than the value it returns to the consumer. People pay the inflated prices because they're sheep as noted earlier.

Look at Microsoft's current line of commercials. They are a company that does the same thing Apple does, but the difference is Apple is "hip" where as Microsoft for a long time, was the only choice. Microsoft says, buy a powerful PC with everything you could need on it for $1,500. Obviously, you aren't getting a powerful Mac for that price even though it they both run on the same type of hardware.

...fashion is the definition of leading sheep to the slaughter. Apple without question is a fashionable brand.

What do you care what people are willing to pay for what they want? Apple isn't the first company to put a premium on design, and no one designs better hardware than Apple, in my opinion.

They aren't a miracle company, they don't make products that are flawless, name a company that does.

I've never gotten this whole anti-mac, anti-pc, anti-whatever crap that's become so trendy, if someone wants to spend their money, let them spend it, how does it hurt you? It's so petty.

You've obviously never had to call Dell or DLink.

Or Microsoft for that matter.

I love my XBOX and wouldn't take any other game system over it but their service just sucks.

I don't buy D-Link as that is second rate garbage. As for Dell, I buy lots of Dell servers and business desktops. The difference between you and I is that I am a corporate account and have a Account Executive that I chew out if what I need isn't being taken care of. If that doesn't work, I tell them to replace my account exec then tell the new one what is going on and make it perfectly clear what I expect from them. I've only had to switch account execs twice since 1999. I've been rather happy with the service I get from Dell.

I'm well aware of Microsoft and XBOX. My son has one and I've spent more than a few hours just sitting on hold to talk to them.

Eh? It doesn't hurt me. Spend what you want, it's your money. Hell, I will sell you some over priced stuff if you want to spend some more. :p:

As I told you, I have no issue with their products. It's the company and their business practices that I loath.

I only buy business class pc's even for personal use. Consumer tech support sucks.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Apple's products are top notch. I'm on my 3rd motherboard in my PC in 2 years. Thats about $800 each. The whole computer ran me about $1200. You want to talk about price gouging?????

I got tired of these PCs that were built like Ford Pinto's, so I bought a mac. I have friends who swear by them, so I figured I'd try it even though they were about twice the amount.

No doubt about it, you get what you pay for. The thing is bombproof. Runs like a ferrari, and never needs a tune up. It was easily worth the extra money and its still going strong.

Same with my iphone. I've had it 2 years now, and I could never go back to a different kind of phone. And you could spend alot more money on other brands too. I've only had one problem with it in 2 years, and I brought it to the store and they gave me a new one right on the spot. It wasn't battery related at all. In fact, even thought the battery can't come out, I've never had a better battery in any phone I've ever owned.

I can see where people see the fancy apple stores and think they are just the "in" thing, but they're wrong. You get what you pay for. Pure and simple.

If your paying $800 for your motherboard, the issue isn't the PC. The issue is you. I paid $109 for a replacement Dell Dimension E521 motherbaord about four months ago. If you are buying off the self replacement motherboards, you should be able to get them for far less. I paid $109, because it was a Dell motherboard. Lets see you get a motherboard from Apple for $109.

btw, I believe Apple's motherboards are made by Intel and MSI. Same stuff you buy at Newegg.com except slightly altered to make them Apple specific. No better quality than the boards Intel and MSI already sell. Apple doesn't *make* Mac hardware anymore, so your higher quality statement because it's Mac is null and void.

How on earth did someone trick you into paying $800 for a motherboard?

Mac's aren't any more bullet proof than anything else, I've had issues with my Macbook Pro and I've had issues with my PC. I've had issues with my iPhone (replaced once) and I've had problems with other phones.

I like Apple because they actually value hardware design as an aesthetic, a lot of companies see hardware as where they can cut the most corners.

The $800 price is what hp quoted. Plus labor. I have been able to find the same one for a couple hundred bucks. Of course, they lasted about 5 months, so you get what you pay for I guess.

Even so, lets not get away from the subject shall we? 3 motherboards in a years time.

If you refuse to accept the fact that a mac is head and shoulders better than a pc, I won't try to convince you. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you've never owned one.

Maybe we should compare a AMC Pacer to a Lexus. You probably wouldn't give the Lexus the nod either.

I'd say it's safe to say you don't know much about computers, at least hardware wise, if you think you would have gotten a higher quality motherboard by paying the $800 from Dell.

You paid "a couple hundred" for a cheaper alternative? The motherboard I put in my machine was $200 and it had all the bells and whistles. If you paid more than that to go in a $1200 PC, you got conned.

I currently own 3 Macs (Macbook Pro, iMac and Mac Mini) and 2 PC's (Sony Laptop and self-built PC), I've built 5 machines for myself and countless others as part of a side business I ran from early in highschool till I finished college, I work with both a Mac and PC every single day as a designer and Ill tell you right now that as far as reliability, a Mac is NOT "head and shoulders" above a PC.

As a matter of fact, I spent much of last week trying to get a replacement for my Mac Pro tower at work that fried the Friday before.

The only truely valid claim the Mac has is that they don't get viruses, mostly because they have such a small market share that hackers don't target them and of course, like I said, I love their hardware design.

Somebody has pulled the wool over your eyes, buddy.

As for owning a Mac. I build system, storage, and network infrastructures for a living. Both Corporate LANs and Internet infrastructures for both normal websites and financial trading platforms. Not only have I worked with Macs, I delt with computer systems and hardware you've never heard of.
