J-Train Has No Time For Foolishness

Jeff Heath is not a bad safety. He is better now than he was before. Plus if there is anyone that has gotten turnovers and big plays its Jeff Heath.
#38 is a liability in coverage that occasionally makes a play that keep the dream alive. Let's not get it twisted.

Honestly, that is better than all the other liabilities in coverage who didn't make plays that were back there as well. Defense got shredded and Jeff Heath wasn't the only one getting carved up.

Where did the idea that Byron Jones is any good come from? He was like 1 or 2 picks off tipped balls and he personally blew a playoff game. You gotta either shut your guy down or be able to get turnovers imo.

I agree. But is at least nice to hear he has had a solid camp. Personally, I wont be convinced until he proves it in regular season games. The problem is that the secondary as a whole will probably be a weakness.

You guys always say the same kind of things:

Hes not bad, hes decent, he makes some plays, you need JAGS on your team.

None of which is a big vote of confidence in my book. Heath is a GREAT backup and special teams player. But if he has to be your starting safety its not ideal. This team needs a GREAT safety and Jeff Heath isnt that. Happy to have him coming off the bench for depth.

Our 1st and 2nd teams dominated their 1st & 2nd teams bro. Then their 3rdg 4th teams dominated our scrubs.

What did we learn?

Their depth is slightly better but during the regular season we would blow them off of the field. Zeke mercy rule.

I think overall the defense has looked good. But its only preseason.

E T is a pipe dream. For whatever reasons, JJ and his band of groupie coaches will NOT barter for him... it's beyond most of us thinking individuals why he won't, but I just do not see them making the trade for Earl. What's most sad about it all, E.T. would be THAT puzzle piece that brings it all together on our D...just about had my fill of JJ and his ignorant ways.

I really don't care what you're "convinced" of or not. Your bias is obvious. They can't win with you. You'll always work to find something to complain about. By all means, continue to cry because Donovan Olumba sucks.

Not trying to restart the convo, just giving you another opinion that echos my concern about the secondary as a whole.

CORNERBACK

If you were disappointed to see the offensive line in this group, then it’s really got to be painful to see the cornerbacks here. It doesn’t seem like very long ago, this was a group we were excited about. The starters on the outside are living up to the hype as both Byron Jones and Chido Awuzie have been playing extremely well. But the guys behind them aren’t doing so hot.

Anthony Brown is so erratic. On some plays he looks like he did his rookie season, but then on others - he’s getting beat and grabbing receivers like he did last season. He’s been a real hot and cold player over the last few weeks. It’s still early and hopefully he can still grow into a viable nickel corner.

The most disappointing player from this position group is Jourdan Lewis. After being one of the team’s most effective corners last season, he has completely fallen out of the starting unit. And while some fans claim the coaching staff is doing him wrong, his performance on the field is not indicative of such. He’s not playing well.

And if that is not bad enough, there isn’t anyone further down the depth chart making a push for a roster spot. There were reasons to be hopeful for players like Duke Thomas, Marquez White, and Charvarius Ward at different points during training camp, but everyone has gone south all of a sudden. If things don’t improve, this could be a problem for the defense.

SAFETY

The Cowboys have a problem at safety. We’ve been hoping that some player would emerge from the hills and wow us with roster-worthy play, but so far - that hasn’t happened yet. Jeff Heath is playing well and he might the the lone bright spot in the entire safety group. People were high on Xavier Woods, but a hamstring injury has given him a setback. Kavon Frazieris okay, but now he’ll be thrown into starter duty.

Its very easy to understand why he wont. He would have to give up a 2nd round pick and then pay the guy somewhere around 13 million per season on a long term contract for a guy 30 or over. It goes against all their newfound policies and gameplan on how they want to build their team.

From where I am standing, it would be a foolish move. Now if the price came down and we could sign him to a 2 year deal around 8 -10 million, that might work.

In the next two years we are going to have to pay Lawrence, Dak, Zeke. Thats about 45-50 million per year in salary alone.

If you want to align yourself with the worst of the worst at Blogging the Boys, that's your prerogative. But if Danny Phantom says left, I go right.

Yet he got it right and you didnt.

Don’t forget my boys Tony and Witten! But yes Jaylon absolutely deserves all the good coming his way
I think Tony and Wit both had fairy tale endings. They got million dollar commentator jobs. The new chapter is off to a great start in their lives. No SB ring but they will not be hurting for resources to take care of family.

That’s a nice glass half full look at things. I don’t feel bad for their lives just bad that their football careers could’ve - should’ve been more

Has Jaylon taken a really hard look at those Safety's and the first thing any D wanting to rank 1st has to do is stop the run and I do not see that with these DT's.

Hope I am wrong but I do not see this as a #1 D or a SB contender at this time. I do believe the arrow is pointing in the right direction for the near future but the middle of the DL and back of the D must be addressed in this off season. I think Irving returning will help some but he's streaky and who knows about where his head is?

I've got two shutouts from the starters in my pocket. Fact.

People can say whatever they want after that and it means nothing.

In preseason. Not even a full half of football. One of them against the worst offense in football. But like I said.........who can compete with that? LOL
