Jackson Jeffcoat now in the CFL

I watched his dad Jim play for us through all those years, and today I was watching his son Jackson Jeffcoat at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers training camp. Felt strange, but such a treat to watch him out there. He did a nice interview with the local media telling them about his young years around the Dallas Cowboys locker room, and hanging out with the such great players. Had some interesting things to say, I hope you enjoy it.

His cousin, Elijah Jeffcoat, player for me the last 2 years. He is an undersized but extremely effective pass-rusher who earned a scholarship at Pitt State (D2 in Kansas). He's a Cowboys fan as well and I gave him a lot of crap about his cousin playing for the Commanders.
 
Saw him at Texas (like we all did) and just didn't see a lot there unfortunately, hope he continues doing what he loves and getting a paycheck....

Right now he is playing on the 3rd unit, but he has looked good in spurts at times and really hustles. I am not sure if he can make the final roster at this moment.
 
He was a 5 star recruit coming out of high school. I really had high expectations for his college and pro career. I hate it when any Longhorn has to play for any NFC EAST team other than us. It nearly broke my heart when Orakpo got drafted by the Commanders.
 
He should have played basketball. Unstoppable post player.
 
That's funny. There were a lot of people that said we'd rue, "just wait and see"

Yeah we saw him all right, saw him go right to the CFL
 
Jeffcoat's problem, at Texas, was not talent. His problem was his ability to stay healthy IMO. Jeffcoat has talent.

Texas had a drop off in getting talent in Mack Browns final years. In addition, they failed to coach up the few talented players they did bring in to the program. They stopped getting the most out of their players, especially on the offensive and defensive lines.

Lack of continuity in the Football Program, at the time. The only constant was Mack. Lost a lot of coaches but hey, that's how it works. Can't complain about that.
 
Jackson was a good not great player at Plano West HS. Never should have been a 5 star recruit from any service much less ballyhooed as the best defensive guy in the country.
He was well taught but a bit undersized as a pass rusher. His Dad didn't just play the position he also teaches it to others.

He acquitted himself well at UT but rushed the passer at about 230-235 pounds. That wasn't gonna work at the pro level and a bulked up version lacked explosion.
Seattle tried him at linebacker but he had never been trained there.

Nothing wrong with a UT degree and a CFL job. He could follow his Dad into coaching.
