Jacque Reeves...

I like him as a 3rd guy.

Im not a big fan of having to start him.

I don't. With so much usage of 3, 4, and 5 receiver sets, you need 3 good corners. I like Reeves has a 4th corner, though.

I'm torn between Reeves being a 3rd or 4th CB......he's been a starter for most of this year and typically trying to handle an oppenents #2 or even #1 the entire game....he can't do that consisenty.....Moss torched him, but the only guy on our team that can hange with S. Moss is Newman.....So I'm left wondering if he's worth a $2 Mil/yr contract as a 3rd CB, long term. I actually feel the playoffs will be a good indicator, with a healthy Newman and Henry on the field.

My guess is that Dallas will put Newman on the slot to totally negate Smith in the 3-wide. That would leave Henry on Burress, hopefully w/ Safety help. Toomer is exactly the type of WR that Reeves needs to be able to win his share of battles against on the outside to earn some decent cash...

I just think for a 3rd guy hes not that bad.

He doesn't get beat more than any other teams 3rd guy. Especially for being the most targeted guy in the league.

I'd definetely like to upgrade the position but Reeves doesn't make me panic or anything.

He's a great back up but I'd like to see us draft a solid CB in the 1st or 2nd round..

One must understand that with the uneducated one this is all that matters:
ANTHONY HENRY IS EVIL AND MUST BE DESTROYED. So when Henry is injured WHOEVER takes his place becomes the uneducated ones favorite player and he will defend him to the death.

Reeves is an OK #3 as long as the #3 WR facing him is just a guy. Against someone like Welker or even Crayton Reeves is toast. As has been proven REPEATEDLY this season. We need to draft at least one top quality CB, and preferably two. Reeves could probably be a very good #4.
The problem with Reeves is that while he has the speed he does not have the quickness and the instincts to make plays.

If we were to lose this game, this battle could be the reason why, hopefully he won't play to far off of Toomer, so they can substain drives picking up easy yards

You won't be after we draft a CB next April.

Agreed, whoever we draft will probably slot into the 3rd CB role.....However, Henry's contract only has 2 years left and I doubt it gets renewed....which would promote whoever we draft and Reeves.

As many have stated, Reeves is a serviceable CB. He has made some plays but still need lot of experiece and learning to become a #2 CB. Right now, he is a #3 playing in #2 spot. Noway he is worth 2-3 mil per season right now and if he demand that much, then J. Jones needs show his arse right out the door.

I think Reeves is a good 3rd corner. I think people are down on him more because Edunce likes him than his actual play.

Do not let Edunce jilt you on a good young 3rd corner.

Reeves does not suck. He still starts at corner in the nickel with Newman covering the slot. Unlike Newman and Henry, Reeves has also had to start on both sides of the field, I believe.

Unlike Nate Jones, if Reeves were cut, he'd have a job within 24 hours. I think the kid is going to be solid, and I think he's going to be just as good as most #2 cb's we've run out over the years, Larry Brown and Charlie Waters included.

Most younger fans probably don't even remember just how god-awful Charlie Waters was at CB before they finally moved him to safety. He was terrible. I remember once when he got an interception against the Commanders in the second half, and Sam Huff said, "When Waters starts intercepting your passes, you might as well pack it up and get on the bus."

For a first year starter who was thrown at as much as Reeves was, thanks to having either Newman or Henry on the opposite side all year, I think the kid did a nice job of breaking up passes and giving up few big plays...he'll only get better.

That's a bit of an oxymoron. Starting in a sub-package?

No, Reeves played the left side exclusively.

Well, yeah, he's better than Jones, but that's not saying much.

What? When is he going to emerge into this character? His 5th season in the NFL? 8th?

He is what he is. He's not getting better.

First of all, Reeves hasn't covered anyone like Welker or Crayton this year. Instead, he's been covering the Burresses and Toomers around the league. Reeves has been a starting CB almost all year, covering the #1 and #2 guys, and that will continue this Sunday because when there is a #3 WR in the game, Newman always goes in the slot, leaving Reeves to cover the starting wideout on the outside.

You'd have to show me some stats to support the idea that he's proven to be "toast" all year...that's a fallacy. You may not like the fact that guys catch balls underneath on him even more than they do the other two guys, but he hasn't been beaten deep with any regularity.

Good arguable points, but to call it the sub package in today's NFL isn't being legit...we play nickel as much as we play any defense, which is why Wade kept calling Henry and Newman starters even though they weren't on the field for the first play of the game.

Second, the final point wasn't to say that Reeves is great, but that we've never had two great CB's on the same field in Dallas until recently. Look at the past 20 years...guys like Reeves and Brown have been players who did the job, but got picked on, and probably couldn't start on lots of other teams.

Henry and Newman, when healthy may be the best we've ever had together since back in the late 60's with Mel Renfro and Herb Adderly. We tried to put two great ones on the field when we first brought Deon Sanders to Dallas, but Pup (Kevin Smith) promptly tore his achilles and was never very good again.

I don't think you can name more than a handful of teams that have three corners who are all the quality of Henry and Newman. I think we'll definitely upgrade this year...we're desperate in that area for a top starter due to Newman and Henry getting dinged so often, but Reeves doesn't suck...that's a very unfair description.

I think he stepped up and proved extremely valuable for this team in our injury situation...he played better than expected and improved over the course of the year. I'd hate to think where we'd be without him.

Actually, we don't play any nickel at all. :)

But the fact that teams play so many snaps in sub-packages is why I think we need an upgrade at the position.

I really wish you could just blast someone in the face with a big hamfist via TCP/IP. Oh the fun I'd have.

I thought he did a very good job over all......better then Roy Williams
Roy was a slightly better tackler, coverage they are about equal, I might in give the nod to Reeves. Roy doesn't have a clue.
