I remember taking a tour of Texas stadium and I could not believe the size of the crown. It seemed like it was at least a good two feet higher down the middle. (Maybe someone remembers the exact specs) This was around ten years ago and I believe that as speedkilz said it has since been reduced in size.

I also seem to remember announcers saying that opposing quarterbacks would often have a hard time with passes to the outside because of the elevation drop.

IIRC, Texas Stadium has a similar crown. I remember seeing a lot of games where the announcers would talk about it.

I was just about to post this..... This fact was especially talked about back in 1995 with Aikman at QB and how other QBs would come in and have to adjust for this crown.

I so would love to play on that field. I love slip and slide mud football. I was a great mudder.

:D

A muddy field is a FB's playground.

When all you can do is basically run straight ahead, give it to your best straight ahead runners.

What are you talking about this football and I still can see grass you play even if you need scuba gear.:laugh2:

Unlike baseball where they call the game if it's cloudy.

That, and ice cold weather at the same time was some painful hits I would take. Glad I can say I'm too old to do that now. :D

I was down on the field at Texas Stadium in the 80's, and I was shocked at how steep the drop was from the middle of the field to the sideline. It was literally like running up a hill and then back down.

I don't mean to imply that I played on the field - I was there during some kind of Cowboys promotion, which allowed us to get down on the field.

Back in the day, we used to purposely flood the field! A friend of ours worked at the elementary school near our house and would leave the sprinklers on all Wed evening and through Thanksgiving day so that the field would be flooded for our annual Turkey Bowl game on Friday. Those were some of the best games I ever played in!

The field in the pic looks just about right. Let's play some football! :D

Brett Favre had a very difficult time adjusting to the crown at Texas Stadium and blamed it for a number of losses they had there in the 90s as he kept overthrowing his receivers on the outside.

Yes. I don't remember anything that ridiculous though. Then again, I wasn't looking for a risers in the middle of the field. ;)

That was the first thing I noticed when I walked into the stadium...

Phil Simms once used to say on average it took him a quarter to adjust to the height difference.

Standing on the sideline at Texas Stadium, you cant see anything below the knees of just about anybody on the other side. (Played in a State Championship game there) The crown is crazy, and it really sucked being a corner, trying to collapse inside on dive's and lead iso's, running up hill the whole way.

I went after the new turf was in and, as another poster noted, the riser was much less visible after the installation of the turf. Now stop picking on wittle ol me. :)

So was your father a mudder. Or was your mother a mudder? Sorry, first thing I thought of was Seinfeld.

Yes ma'am. Brett Favre used to complain about his throws due to the crown.

Btw - They used to play in that kind of stuff. Now we got a bunch of mamby pamby's................
