We drafted a great CB at 5 once in Terrence Newman, very similar to Ramsey....really good player, really fast, lock down type guy but hardly ever made an INT (just like Ramsey dating back through college). (Newman actually had the added value of also returning punts for a short time) He was an important part of a few defenses we had that were decent to very good and he was a good player for us for a long time. No one lamented the Newman pick when we made it, he was a really good player as I suspect Ramsey will be. However, with how well Cla, Carr, Brown, and the rest of the secondary is playing right now, Ramsey would've had to replace Carr or Church (who's also playing very well) to get on the field. Not sure he makes a huge impact this year, especially over how the secondary has already been playing.
However, with our OL in place combined with the blocking scheme we run, Zeke was like an injection of a Ferrari over a chevy malibu at RB for us. For those that say DMC did well last year, well he may not even play this year and started the year on IR. Yes Morris is a good player but he doesn't have that second gear that Zeke does. Morris gets caught from behind against Cincy on that 60 yard back breaker run. Morris doesn't scare anyone, neither did DMC. Good players, probably both 1,000 yard rushers behind this OL. However, Zeke very well may be a 2,000 yard back. Defenses are learning that Zeke will beat them if they don't commit to stopping him, which opens up the entire offense and especially aids a rookie QB (as well as complements his abilities).
There are some circumstances we didn't really know about when we took Zeke over Ramsey...like Romo going down again, can't remember if DMC was already hurt or not then...but the stars clearly aligned for us and unless Zeke's career is cut short for some unforeseen reason there's no way anyone is saying we should've taken Ramsey over Zeke a year or two from now. Zeke was the right player at the right time for us and our situation.
That said, and as far as rookies go, what has really surprised me is how invisible Jack has been. I was perplexed as to why we took Smith over Jack in round 2.
