I don't know about most of this but the timeline seems in line with other athletes (though I mostly remember them in hockey players). My understanding of blot clots is they need to stabilize. He'll get a shot of Lovenox and then they'd typically want him on a blood thinner for 3-6 months as their is a known provocation (cleat to calf.)
The blood thinner doesnt break up the clot, but prevents further clotting development. His body has to naturally break it down. The important thing now is the clot stabilizes in place. Apparently they detected movement afrer initially clearing him to play. He cant risk it further as the clot could work its way to the heart, lungs, or brain causing a heart attack, pulmonary embolism or stroke.
Im sure a doc can and will come along shortly and correct my "understanding" though.
Point is, he could be out awhile.
DAL.loses to backup QBs. Sure bet every time. That sucks. But at least we now get to see how bad his backup is.
I agree, but in this case it’s an injury not an illness or not a symptom of an underlying condition.Man it seems like this happens too often now. Olave was another one. These guys are too young to be throwing clots. Eagles can suck it, but heal up.
Surprised all the roids, coke and cigarettes the players in the 70’s didn’t cause more issues.Wonder if it’s due to some supplement and or illegal substance.
Phillies pitcher Wheeler’s season was ended last year due to a blood clot.I don't know about most of this but the timeline seems in line with other athletes (though I mostly remember them in hockey players).
The hope is the clot will dissipate without the use of blood thinners. You may not play if you’re on any blood thinners. Holding him out indicates they’re hoping to get him back. Not tanking.I agree, but in this case it’s an injury not an illness or not a symptom of an underlying condition.
Hurts got cleated in the calf. Basically a vein just under the skin got damaged by the cleat and got blocked up.
They gave him ibuprofen to reduce swelling and hope the clot loosens up.
My only question would be based on how superficial the clot is and if that impacts the diagnosis. My (personal) experience is with a deep vein thrombosis (and limited training as a medic.)I don't know about most of this but the timeline seems in line with other athletes (though I mostly remember them in hockey players).
It could be because he is an Eagle!!!! JKIt could be due to varicose veins as well.
Big news
Maybe he is taking estrogen. Omgosh, I am on a roll. You guys know I am just kidding.Probably not, however anything that affects hormone levels can be a trigger. I highly doubt that's the case though with nfl testing.
Dalton probably wishes they were playing our defense this week.Andy Dalton, lol! I wonder if they just bench him and go to Tanner McKee.
Fortunately, it’s not a deep vein thrombosis. It surface level, just below the skin, even if left untreated there’s only a minuscule chance it gets to the heart or lungsNot good. I hope they get on this quickly so it doesn’t move to his lungs or heart. Don’t play around with blood clots. Scary situation. I hope he’s okay
McKee is going to start. Dalton was released last week.Dalton probably wishes they were playing our defense this week.
