I'd take him in the 2nd.

Cromartie
Hardy
Charles

Unless Keith Rivers is still available.

After having a tutoring lesson on how to grip the football by The Tyler Rose..........he only fumbled 1 time after the OU game (which took place in early October). UT played like 7 or 8 games after that one.....so 1 fumble in 7 or 8 games is very good, I would say great considering his fumbling issues.

He is a homerun hitter, just ask Nebraska and OSU. He can catch out of the backfield. He can also be a good KR. He is a good blocker.....he rarely missed blocks that got McCoy killed.

I hate this time of year, because things are scrutinized so closely

I mean after McFadden, Jackson and maybe Mendenhall, there really isn't that much seperation between the backs after them, yet you have people who would be upset w/ a back out of the group of Rice, Johnson, Charles, Forte, Slaton, etc.

but it's also a fun time, comparing backs, good discussions although some people lean too far to one side

Chale, ese.
Charles played to his max during big, televised games.
That tells me something.
Fumbling. He's certainly not a UT running great like Campbell, Williams or even Young. Receiving and blocking skills are suspect.
Meh.
Nope. However, 6th round ....

6th round??!! My, you are particular. I have watched all of Charles' highlight at the Texas web sight, and saw him at the Rookie Challenge on ESPN2. This kid is special. He has an amazing ability to make people miss. Not in the Barber run 'em down mode, but with super quick feet, and one of the best bursts of any back in this draft. He gets free a lot, and when he does, it's game over-you ain't gonna catch him.

The commentators at the Rookie Challenge made mention more than once on Charles' incredible, Dorsett-like burst when he ran the obstacle course, and also in the receiving faze. Coming through & out of the padded gauntlet, the dude looked like he was shot out of a cannon.

Charles would be an excellent upgrade over Julius Jones. I don't know just what happened to JJ, but, like Deion Sanders once said, he looks like he's just looking for a place to fall down. Charles would be an excellent deal at the #61 spot in the second round of this year's draft.

I like him, especially after the skills competition on tv. He has fantastic hands! And yes he is incredibly fast. I think his only real problem is between tackles.

I live in the Austin metroplex and have seen him play a lot. He is fast, no doubt but if he has a problem between the tackles in college, which he does, how much worse will that weakness be in the pros?

I live in Austin...selecting Charles would be a mistake. He is another Benson just smaller and quicker. First hand that touches him- down he goes!

There are about 8 backs I'd rather have before we even begin to discuss the idea of getting Charles.

After he has a great career with the Cowboys, he can then take Emmitt's place at ESPN! What speaking skills!

His speed won't stand out much int he NFL. The combine and draft will be loaded with speedsters.
Now give me a speedster who knows how to hit the hole, learn a new system, not fumble when hit by the finest players in the world and can pick up blitzes and blocks and we'll be rolling.
Charles' problem is motivation. In lesser games against also-rans he was notorious for mailiing it in. At big games when the network cameras were out he was Mr. Maximus Overachiever.
And he always kept talking about how he had to show the scouts this and that in the big games.
He's just another overrated back from a premier school. Speedy, yeah, but with little else.
6th round may be too harsh.
5th round, then. And only as a look-see and definitely not to replace either MB or JJ or whichever RB we draft before then.

He would not only be a decent replacement at RB but one could also use him as a better "welker" type of receiver; faster and better once his hands touch the ball in open space.

People may be scared off because of the lack of success that Cedric Benson has had since coming into the NFL but Benson is not half the back Charles is. He is the complete package. Blazing speed, good balance, instincts, and good enough power to be a great back. His biggest weakness will be blocking in the pass game.

I wouldn't be upset if we took him with the 28th pick. I wouldn't say he is the next AP or even that he is better than some of the backs rated above him but IMO he is at least in the xame class as the four or five rated above him and just isn't getting the same amount of press. He is going to be a nice surprise to somebodies fans when they see what he can do for themselves.

you are so wrong about charles, its not even funny. he will be a damn good back in nfl. you see people posting the 10.23 100 speed you automatically figure he's just a speed back. you see people mention his fumbling and you automatically think he fumbles half his carries.

im so you arent a scout for the cowboys.

i see a complete back with good vision, good cut back ability, good ability to break tackles, tough runner and fantastic break away speed. you would know this if you watch texas football.

you sir are probably like a lot of the sheep out there who were backing Julius, crayton and RW.

Rivers? what do you suppose we do with a 220lb LB in a 3-4 system?
