If you really want to stir things up, call them UT-Austin.

Every year, the Longhorn fans on the board promote their guys. The biggest debate I remember was the Quentin Jammer-Roy Williams battle in 2002.

I went with Roy Williams yet I'm a diehard Texas Fan and can't stand OU but watching both players in Jammer and Williams I was glad we took Williams. As I mentioned in my post I may be a Texas Longhorn fan but I do take off the burnt orange glasses when it comes to the Cowboys and the players we draft. Even more recently I was not one who was interested in Aaron Ross. Only reason I have high regards for Charles is because I think the has some very good talent. I also like many of the other RB in the draft class and would be happy with any of the top RB’s

I'm also a UT fan that prides myself on being able to view things objectively, but I definitely would have loved having Aaron Ross on our team and was upset he went to a division rival of all places. I think he'll make a fine NFL corner.

I hope the best for Ross but just was not overly impressed by him late in his Sr. year or at least not enough to take him in the 1st rd.

WE probably would have been better of with Jammer looking back.
How's that possible when he was draft before we picked ???
Instead of Carpenter Dallas would have been better with Mario Williams too.

Why? Jammer has not been very good.
Simple, anyone is better than Roy.

I didn't read the entire thread, so if this has been mentioned here already, my sincerest appologies...but...

My dissappointment with Charles was simply that IMO he never really lived up to my personal expectations of him in college.I really, really, really expected him to win a Heisman.

But on the bright side.......I had the same expectations of Adrien Peterson.

Well actually he's 6'2 236lbs.

DallasCowboys.com has our top 3 ILB listed at

Bradie James 6'2 239
Akin Ayodele 6'2 240
Kevin Burnette 6'3 227

So to answer your ? I'd plug him into AA's spot and watch a LB that can cover and tackle. What do you think we'd do with him - Genius.

He's listed at 220 on a number of draft sites. Why would we draft a LB in the first for the 4th straight season? WR,CB,RB are much bigger needs.

His speed won't stand out much int he NFL. The combine and draft will be loaded with speedsters.
Now give me a speedster who knows how to hit the hole, learn a new system, not fumble when hit by the finest players in the world and can pick up blitzes and blocks and we'll be rolling.
Charles' problem is motivation. In lesser games against also-rans he was notorious for mailiing it in. At big games when the network cameras were out he was Mr. Maximus Overachiever.
And he always kept talking about how he had to show the scouts this and that in the big games.
He's just another overrated back from a premier school. Speedy, yeah, but with little else.
6th round may be too harsh.
5th round, then. And only as a look-see and definitely not to replace either MB or JJ or whichever RB we draft before then.
Obviously you're trying to get a rise out of Longhorn fans. Nice try, but nobody will believe you're this stupid.

Johnson ran a 10.62 in the 100-meter, while Charles ran a 10.23 as a freshman and won the Big-12 title...thats Terrance Newman-type speed, folks.

10.23 as a freshman is almost world class speed. He would be an interesting pick in the 2nd or 3rd. He needs to learn to speak english but his 100 meter time is most likely much faster than Glenn's. If he could do some duty as a WR and punt or kick returner he might be a very good pickup.

Actually, we don't. At least not near to the extent you "stir things up" with your blind dislike of them, because of your veiled fan-dom of the yearly "also-ran", Tx Tech.

One thing we can count on in any thread regarding Texas and its player's, is you, weighing in with your insightful condemnation of Texas fans. Whatever that's worth and/or proves!?

FWIW, I'd bet $$$' to doughnuts, Jammer would be the popular choice now, all things considered and truth be told.

There are two reasons for that:

1) Every year, the Horns haters on the board trash their players beyond all reason... and I do mean every year... meanwhile, the players being trashed go on to be nice, if not Pro Bowl level, players in the NFL...

2) Every year, the Horns have a certain number of NFL-caliber players enter the draft...

Just found an interesting tidbit:

DEVIN HARRIS AS A FRESHMAN (2004): Competed in the 55-meters, 60-meters and long-jump competition during the indoor season and the 100-meter and 4x100-meter relay during the outdoor season... BIG EAST Indoor Champion in the long jump with a mark of 7.37 meters...finished third in the 60-meters at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships... competed in the preliminaries of the 100-meters at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships recording a season-best a time of 10.42.

I'm not sure what Charles' 40 time will be at the combine, but a 10.23 is a lot faster than a 10.42, and Charles may be even faster than Hester at the pro level.

I'm not sure if he is running at the combine or only at the Texas workout but his stock will go up after more people have a chance to see his film and he runs his forty.

He supposedly ran in the 4.2 range in high school.

I agree. Charles gave up track last year and really dedicated himself to football. He bulked up a little and yet maintained his speed and produced for the Longhorns in some very impressive performance in come from behind wins vs Neb and OSU.
