I don't get to see guys in practice, but what exactly did this kid not do to make the team last year. It had to have been a lack of returning kicks or playing special teams well, because a buddy of mine and me both thought he played like a young Terry Glenn in preseason last year, in terms of when he was on the field as a receiver.

Preseason means nothing, but I could not deny the body control, hands, and explosiveness he showed. I was very surprised when he didn't make the team, and more surprised when he didn't get snagged by another team who saw what he was doing in those preseason games.

He was the opposite of Stanback, he was small and weak, he would have been stymied by corners in the league let alone a safety or LB.

I thought him and Hurd played equally well in preseason. Everyone is talking about Hurd and Austin, but I think Rector has potential too.

I thought Parcells said on multiple occasions that Rector was the strongest guy on the team, pound-for-pound ....????

Rector played as well as anyone in preseason.
Two playoff teams he might have helped were the Giants and Chargers.
Parcells did say he was very strong for his size, which couldn't be much smaller than Steve Smith.

Rector is one of the enigmas of last year as to why he didn't get a chance.

Every year there are many around the league.

Personally, I'm tired of benching these guys in lieu of older, proven veterans.

These youngins need to get on the field more often. They're hungry and healthy and can contribute IMO.

And every so often, you'll find you've had a star on the sidelines all this time.

We are actually stacked at the WR position in terms of youthful prospective talent. It's time we see what we have instead of assuming.

Dude Rector was money!!! I don't understand it either. I wish we constantly rotated all our receivers, these young kids are hungry and we all saw both him and Hurd make plays.

Give em some play time:cool:

Rector has a big heart and some skills, but he won't make it here. Too crowded IMHO. He should go to a WR starved team becuse he has a place in the NFL as a 4-5 WR.

Once the Cowboys have a chance to see what they have in TC, the decision will again be made who has the better talent re Hurd/Austin/Stanback, etc. If the Cowboys like these players' future better then Rector, maybe we can trade him for a 7th rounder if he makes their team. I want us to get something out of it.

No way we'd ever get a draft pick for Rector...any team in the NFL could have had him for free when he was cut or on the practice squad...no one wanted him or to even look at him.

No matter what he does in preseason, no one is going to give us a draft pick for him.

T.O., Glenn, Crayton, Stanbach, Austin, Hurd.

Any others will be gone.

I didnt see that at all. I saw Rector excel last pre-season. He made play after play in game after game. Hurd wasnt bad but he didnt stand out nearly as much

The fact we released him and anyone could have picked him up should tell you all you need to know.

As for the strong comments and so on, it is not unusual for that type of praise to not be the answer as to whether he can make the team or not.

Quincy Butler is getting rave reviews for having the whole physical package. Yet, why is he on the fringe of the roster? Something is missing obviously.

The fact that the guy made plays whenever he had the chance tells me all I need to know.

Hurd's efforts on special teams coverage got him on the team. Rector didn't fare as well.

Obviously, all you need to know is that he's a fringe player who can look decent against bad competition in the preseason.

Since none of the guys at the top of the Cowboys Organizational chart are named "Matt Millen", I will go with their judgment.

I liked the kid, but there is a reason why he didn't make it to the season.
