James Hanna

My guess is he doesn't make the roster. He's just not a good football player.

He's a good athlete but not a natural receiver. There's hope though since Miles wasn't a natural receiver either.

However, like we've seen with Miles, you will never erase the Occasional concentration drop.

Hanna is 6'4" and speed is 4.40 4.50 in the 40 cant remember exactly. But the guy is BIG and FAST. He makes catches and drops catches. But that can be fixed right? What do you guys think about him?

Well, he's a Sooner, and that's a big handicap to overcome all by itself... :D

6'4?

Kinda tiny for a TE.. he better be fast. Still wish Bennett could have matured, because he'd be a HELL of a threat in the passing game with his size and athleticism.

Garrett moves the TEs around in his scheme, a Big Tuna influence, and has been searching for that weapon that he needs to have, in order to be effective.

I would say he is the prototype size if your design is to plug him in to H-Back/slot Hybrid, that you can move around in the formation.

If you have versatility at those positions, you can play that formation as one back, two tight ends, two receivers, and you put ‘em up in the one-back set, now if you have versatility, you can take one of those tight ends, and you can bring him back into the backfield, and now your giving a two back look.

Its just trying to get the right pieces in place for this formation, but I like the thought of having a guy thats 6'4" 260#r that runs a 4.49 being schemed into an opportunity to run digs, slants and smash routes from an inside position.

So I dont see a need for Hanna to add any more weight, He wasnt brought in to replace Bennett, they will find another blocking TE to fill that role.

First time I've heard 6'4" 250 referred to as tiny. :laugh2:

Hanna is already a better athlete than Bennett ever was. There was no reason Bennett should have been taken as high as he was, in my opinion. I didn't like the pick when it was made at all.

Like him or not, Owens is a HOFer. While he may not have fly paper hands, he is still one of the best WRs of all time. Bad comparison.

Nobody said TO wasn't a great player. I believe the comment was about whether the "bad hands" situation ever went away with TO (or even Bennett). I believe catching is just as much mental as physical. Hopefully working after practice and catching tons of extra passes will improve the player's ability to catch, but having confidence in one's hands and keeping the focus throughout the game are huge factors. For example, Miles Austin has made some exceptional catches during his career but continues to drop quite a few very catchable balls. Focusing on the catch and not the run after the catch (or the big hit that's coming) is as important as anything when it comes to having good hands. I think TO may have had the worst hands of all the top receivers in history. He was an athletic freak who made up for his hands with incredible explosion. He was very difficult to cover and to take down after the catch. His hands were never good.

You may be right. At this point is clearly much more of an athlete than a football player.

Seems like too much of an interesting project to just dump though, esp. since we're thin at TE. Practice squad.

Garrett never coached with or under Tuna. Curious why you see him as the influence in moving TEs around.

Trying to put him on the PS, to me, is that same as dumping him because you are completely open to losing him to another team. If the team is intrigued by his athleticism, they need to be open to keeping him as the 3rd TE and letting him play special teams.

A guy like that, you don't play reindeer games with unless you are fine with losing him.

I dont want to get in to a dialogue of how I know,, and Im not asking anyone to belive anything Im saying here, but there are relationships in the NFL that are mutually respectful in the code of silence.

Tuna has been in touch as a mentor behind the scenes more so as a friend than any type of behavior that could possibly be construed as a league violation.

If they see a blocking TE out on the waiver wire they are going to probably be forced to unless he just lights it up in preseason. Just a scenario, but if Bennett gets released from NYG I think they are all over that.

Yeah, I guess that's the biggest threat to his spot. The way I look at it as that they knew what they were getting when they drafted him.

You draft a guy that's more of an athlete than anything else and then cut him because he's more of an athlete than anything else?

Why draft him if the reason you took him is the same reason you throw him out?

I'm not sure on Bennett, I don't think they want him back here after he seemed so thrilled to be out of Dallas.

I would prefer to see Parnell or Nagy get snaps as the blocking TE. They both have excellent athleticism and Nagy played some TE in college.

He's certainly worth a PS spot, but I'd say the chances he turns into an actual football player is less than 1 in 20.

Sorry, but lol.

It's ok to say 'my bad' every now and then.

Unless Hanna is a bust, I believe Phillips may be more in danger than him.

I don't know what you are going by, but Phillips is solidly the #2 and was reported to looking alot like the guy before the knee injury. Hanna is definitely the one on the bubble.(if they pick up someone) And Hanna wasn't even the guy the Cowboys were eyeing in the 6th round. They planned on taking Cyrus Gray when the Chiefs nabbed him four picks in front of them.
