Bottom line is that this breed of animal has a much worse record then any other as regards mauling people. So why would anyone with a brain have one if you have children? Does not surprise me at all about Harison- the guy is a thug and a idiot anyway.

I'm a huge dog lover. I currently have two small house dogs and have had various types all my life. However, I'll never understand why some people have to have pit bulls when they have small children. It's stupid. I have nothing against pit bulls and know they can be really good dogs. However, they were bred for a purpose and that purpose is fighting. Even though some of them can be really good dogs if they're treated well, they can still have the tendency to be aggressive. Especially if a child plays a little rough with it. Personally, I think it's very irresponsible to have that type of dog with a small child.

Thats because they aren't nearly as bad as they are made out to be. Girl I used to work with had a couple, one with the biggest head I have ever seen and he was as nice and well behaved as any dog I have ever seen. Her other dog was a little skiddish but after you pet her, she was yours forever.

Pits aren't bad dogs. Bad owners produce bad pets. I don't care what kind of dog it is.

its just a matter of instincts, pitbulls have a certain thought process. when a pitbull looks at an adult it thinks, could i kill this thing, then should I, with adults, they usually don't need to get to question two, with children a good dog will get to question 2 and know not to.. the problem is, even the most well behaved dogs in the world, sometimes can become confused, and forget why they shouldn't..

bottom line is you shoudn't ever stake your childs life on a dog's reasoning.

There is a reason. But is it really because Pit Bulls are the only dogs attacking people?

I doubt it. Its because of their reputation and natural aggressiveness. I'm not saying they are the perfect pet because they do have a certain temperament.

I'm just saying the great majority of Pit attacks are the fault of the owner, IMO.

There are stories ar great owner of Pits have their kids mauled. Even if you take only Pits with thgreat owners--and then we know the level of issues goes way down--they still have a higher chance of mauling than most other dogs. Say 85-90% are great when the owner is good, tat's still way too hiugh a number of ones that just snap under hte wrong circumstance.

Clearly the Pit Bull has its niche but that doesn't mean it has to be confined to that role. Just because the dog is used in fighting doesn't mean you can't have one that isn't a fighter. If it wasn't the Pit, it would be another dog in that ring.

The vast majority of Pits do not fit their stereotype. People who buy and raise the dog in that mold produce the dogs who are aggressive and dangerous.

Perfect an Alpha Dog for the Alpha Male.

I had one friend who owned a pit. He ended up having the dog because he had certain crops growing in his backyard. Then one day the fence was left open for the dog to take a walk. And on that walk he found a kid.

The town I live in got so tired of these dogs it banned them from ownership altogether.
