“I came home to find out that my boys received two trophies for nothing, participation trophies!” Harrison wrote. “While I am very proud of my boys for everything they do and will encourage them till the day I die, these trophies will be given back until they EARN a real trophy. I’m sorry I’m not sorry for believing that everything in life should be earned and I’m not about to raise two boys to be men by making them believe that they are entitled to something just because they tried their best…cause sometimes your best is not enough, and that should drive you to want to do better…not cry and whine until somebody gives you something to shut u up and keep you happy.”

We always politely accepted participation trophies, but we never kept them or made a deal about them, either.

I didn't read the whole thing.... Is he also against gaining competitive advantage by using illegal supplements, hgh, steroids etc.... and getting trophies that way.

Wasn't he cut 4-5 times... Thereby even missing the "participation trophy" opportunities? Then he got a little "boost" and went on to "greatness" heh heh

Never liked the last, and current, generations ideals on participation(s). When I grew up, if you didn't earn it, you don't deserve anything. There was only one activity where that would occur........Cub/Boy Scouts, that is it.

I never even wanted a 2nd or 3rd place trophy..........2nd place is 1st loser!

IMO, this only feeds to the current topic on entitlement these days. A lot of people want things that they are not willing to work hard to achieve a goal.......gimmie, gimmie, gimmie :(

sad thing is this is rare anymore. Actually expecting his kids to work hard and come to terms with disappointment. Some gomers will call that child abuse.

This is the same yam that got in trouble for beating his gf/wife a while back right? Funny that he has the hashtag, “Harrison Family Values".

I use to coach Upward Basketball... they don't keep score... I always did and relayed it to the team and parents...

It's important in life for children to know they don't always win. It's the effort that matters...

What's crazy to me is the graduation ceremonies they have. Pass 4th grade? Graduation ceremony. Pass kindergarten? Graduation ceremony. Get certified to operate the ferris wheel at the county fair? Graduation ceremony.

Another thing...kids rarely say 'please' when they want something. If you want to now how they get a sense of entitlement, not saying please when want something would be a good start.

I bet he or other football players don't complain about getting swag bags or the like in some bowl games or bonuses in playoff games even if they lose.

I don't like the idea of kids getting trophies for everything...ribbons maybe but whatever, it all seems kind of shady that a weasel like Harrison is doing this when he is more than likely a steroid junky.

I get what you are saying, but do you not get those if you win or lose and only are tied to a game due to the sponsors it no different than going to a expo. It has nothing to do with the game. Given I have no idea what is in the SWAG bags but I go to enough car competitions where the SWAG bags is nothing more than "junk" usually hawking someone's wares, whomever the official sponsors are for the game.

Yes...but most often they are probably worth more in value than a lame little plastic trophy made in china. So meh...it's all the same.

I got one for posting here!

Never been big on Trophies. To be honest, couldn't even tell you where any of mine are. Awards, whatever. Life is the true measure of success. People know if they have been successful or not. If you have not, then keep working until you are. If you feel like you need to surround yourself with trophies, that's fine too but if you have a good life, you may find that those trophies are not that big of a deal. Least that's how I feel.
