Wilson had a lot more targets than Washington last year. We got several Steelers games where I live and Rothlisberger had to get rid of the ball almost immediately, the announcers mentioned it almost every game. Back in 2019 when Pittsburg had better pass protection Washington had 80 targets for 735 yards. If we can get the OL worked out Washington's role will be to take the top off the defense.

Seeing that Gallup won’t be ready until week 4-6, he better be able to fill The number 2 spot that CeeDee left behind.
If he is one of our starters day one we are in trouble
He’s fine as a 4th but he’s not a number 2

Overview
Washington is a top-heavy receiver with dangerous build-up speed who has a three year history of hitting chunk plays thanks to his speed and ball tracking. Washington is more gradual than sudden with check marks in the vertical categories but minuses in categories like route running and hands. Washington has the potential to compete as a WR2 for a team looking to stretch the field. His limitations and dependence upon his quarterback's deep ball accuracy makes the chasm between his ceiling and floor a little wider.
Strengths
  • Escapes press with good initial quickness
  • Vertical talent averaging just over 20 yards per catch over last three years
  • Awkward early steps into route develop into powerful, driving strides eight yards in
  • Surprises cornerbacks with build up speed and consistently gets by them
  • Accelerates from stems on post routes and creates open deep looks for quarterbacks
  • Tracks balls like a centerfielder racing for the warning track
  • Adjusts speed to match ball flight and keeps cornerbacks stacked
  • Able to go up and come down with the deep ball with the best of them
  • Deep speed creates cushion for comeback routes underneath
  • Flashes runaway speed after catch or will get physical to add critical yardage
  • Worked outside and from slot
James Washington Draft and Combine Prospect Profile | NFL.com

He would not have seen the field last year if he was on the Cowboys Roster

Now He is potentially the number 2 if Gallup isn't fully healed

Ceedee is #1, then who? Gallup won’t be ready till week 4, they even already said that. So to me that means week 4-6. So who is#2? It’s either Washington or it’s a rookie draft pick.

There was another YouTube video in his signing thread. I like what I saw..speed and power. What l liked more was he goes up for the ball. Not a massive signing but he could be a #3 easily and make plays. Remember how Terrence Williams could bust out some games taking slants to the house. Maybe like that but with more power.and jump. Again not a massive move but good.

It's a reason why they called 'em .. " Highlights " .........................

You have 0 idea when Gallup will be ready. Operating with any certainty there is a logical flaw.

I hope our 2 is not on the roster yet
Because it ain’t Washington as far as talent
I don’t think Gallup is out till week 4 but we shall see
But either we need to add a guy in FA or the draft
Washington replacing Wilson is fine
Lamb replacing cooper is fine
But someone has to fill the role Lamb did last year as an actual 2 if lamb is the 1

He's pretty starchy at 5-11 and 213, so he's a bit more physical than Wilson. I think he fits nicely into our WR rotation. Let's see if we'll pick up another WR in the draft, as well. There are some very good ones to be had in this draft.

That was this past season. Washington’s best season was his 2nd year when he had 44 for 735 (16.7 YPC). This is a good signing.
I hope so. we all hope so, because that's what jerry is selling us. lose cooper/wilson, bring in Washington and TBD and we are in just as good a shape or better....do people really buy that?

In addition to what Voch said I think another reason his production dropped was the steelers had to go to a short passing game due to poor pass protection.

so how does that explain other Steelers receivers moved ahead of him on the depth chart ?

With guys like Diontae Johnson, and.Ray Ray McCloud, moving ahead of him ?
Chase Claypool came two years after JW was drafted and he's now easily their lead feature WR.
For whatever reason JW game just never developed.

I get that. Not sure why the snarkiness. I just said he could be useful as a #3 type guy who can make plays here snd there. It’s not like I’m celebrating the guy.

Could be, the guys you mentioned would be Gallup and Lamb for us.
