Bunch of losers. Nobody here says a word about Jamie Benn's Art Ross trophy? Nothing about the break-neck point pace he set in the last 12 games? (23 points in the last 12 games)

What kind of DFW sports fans are you guys?!?!?

You disgust me!

Go Stars! Congrats Jamie Benn!

Have to admit it took a search to find out who this was. Never heard of him before.

should I be more ashamed of not knowing who Jamie Been is or Art Ross?

I've tried to talk hockey on here multiple times, just not a great place for it. Trust me, I watch all the games. :)

He had a great season. What's scary is Seguin would have finished with more points had he not gotten injured. They were on a tear for the final month once Nemeth came back in the lineup, and Klingberg was the biggest surprise of the seaon IMO.

i haven't watched much hockey the last few years since I've been in Austin, what exactly are the Stars missing? I'm guessing defense? they gave up so many leads this year.

They lost Valeri Nichushkin (hip surgery) and Patrik Nemeth (deeply lacerated arm) basically for the year. Patrirk Nemeth is one of their most stabilizing defensive forces which is crazy since he is basically a rookie. He came back for the last month or so of the season and the Stars stabilized defensively. They won 14 of the last 19 once Nemeth returned. Val didn't return until almost the very end.

I was at a Stars game just last Friday.
But this is a Cowboy fan forum, so talking hockey is a luxury and not remotely expected.

So is that enough to compete next year. I'm not talking about sneaking into the playoffs, I mean serious contenders. Is Kari a championship goalie?

I was really into the Stars from 97 to around 07. Sometimes I go back and watch those old Edmonton/Dallas games on youtube. Those teams had a lot of grit. They weren't pretty like the Avalanche. What would you say the personality of the team is now?

The expectations for this year were through the roof. With the big losses of Nemeth and Val and the fact that Kari had an awful season. That resulted in a 92 point season. (92 points was the mark expected to make the playoffs)

Combined the injuries and Kari's season along with the central division being home of the cream of the crop this year made it very difficult for the Stars to make the playoffs.

Nobody in the central division had less than 90 points. Four of the seven teams in the central division had over 100 points on the season. If the Jets had scored 1 more point (99), five of the seven teams would have had 100 or more points. The Stars stumbling out of the gate doomed them because of how dominate the central division was this season.

I will say this though, the Stars were exciting to watch. They were the second highest scoring team in the league. If Seguin hadn't missed 10 games. Benn and Seguin possibly could have been #1 and #2 top scoring players in the league.

That's a shame because Hockey IMO is probably the most competitive sport of the four major sports. Hockey is 100mph throughout the entire game. None of the other four major sports can say that.

Yes, mainly defense. They had 3 players come up from the AHL to play defense for them this year. They have some good defensive prospects in the system, two of which have proved they can play in the NHL (Nemeth and Klingberg). Look for them to sign a veteran D in free agency and try to get their prospects some experience. They should be OK in the long run, they are just very young and learning.

I believe they finished the season with the #2 offense in the league but the #27 defense in terms of goals scored and goals allowed. Goaltending was also inconsistent, especially at #2; but you can attribute some of that to defense.

I wouldn't call them serious contenders just yet, but they have the pieces to become that within the next few years. The personality of this team is speed and goals goals goals. However, they do show a lot of fight, and play 100% most of the time. Speed is definitely their identity; they are very exciting to watch.

Not for nothing, but 87 points is the lowest total to win the award since Stan Mikita won it in 1968. Benn probably would have gotten up around 100 had Seguin stayed healthy though.

I've said it before on this board, but that team is going to go nowhere with Jason Spezza. They'd be better off trading him for a D man and a checking forward.

I can't for the life of me comprehend this statement. The dude is a #1 center in this league. So is Tyler Seguin. With Spezza, we have two #1 centers. (a #1 for both the first and second lines) How in hell can you say the Stars are better off without him?!?!

If you look at most of the past Stanley Cup Champions, they all have basically two #1 centers. You require this type of depth to be a true Stanley Cup contender.

Please explain your logic in that statement.

Ya I'm going to have go disagree there, that's ridiculous. They're better off keeping him and adding defense. They are OK in the gritty forward department. They'll probably add one in free agency after losing a guy like Horcoff. No reason to trade Spezza for any of that. If he's gone we have to find a top 6 center and we will not find one close to Spezza. He's a great player.

Spezza isn't a #1 center...at least not on a good team, and he's making $7 mil on a team that didn't even sniff the playoffs. He is about to be 32. He just had his worst year, in terms of PPG, in a decade. He was a -7 on a team that was second in the league in goal scoring.

Spezza has value if you're a playoff team without him and think he can push you over the top. On a young team that is in the process of rebuilding, he's worthwhile with a low contract. He's a high contract, aging player on a young, rebuilding team.

With Spezza, you're far better off having a #2 center who can matchup to opposing teams' #1s. He can't do that. You don't want Seguin doing that so he can focus on scoring.

Benn did this while playing hurt for much of the season, btw.

In fact, he's just scheduled hip surgery.

Yea, he also had a pretty significant slump around the midway point of the season, IIRC.

Benn is easily in my top 5 favorite players...other than Rangers.

Because he was not playing the #1 C position

#27 in goals against

Spezza can match up a #1 center, he has for his career. Dallas is not rebuilding, they are growing and putting together the final pieces (Defense). 32 is a fine age, he will be good for us while he is here. I don't get the hate.
