Jane Slater: Cowboys not in mix right now for Kupp

Right now, I think a receiver is a must in either the first or the second. We have Lamb, but we have no No. 2 receiver. Free agency isn't over, though, so we still could get a Brandin Cooks-quality No. 2.
WR is always a possibility with our first or second pick but we do have bigger needs. We traded a 4th for Mingo thinking he could replace Cooks. If we draft a receiver high it just makes that trade look worse.

I will take flip side of the coin, maybe Kupp is not interested in the cowboys right now and is looking at teams where he may have better chance of being the primary guy and not the default #2 on the team.

I don’t think this FO sees WR as a big priority with this team, a lot of you guys will be disappointed.

1. May not be in the mix to trade for him.
2. May not be in the mix due to the price to sign him, when cut.
3. Stephen may confusing Cooper Kupp with Cooper Rush

LOL.

Here is what is happening. They want Kupp. But they refuse to go and get a player they like that might cost them more than their comfort zone.

So they wait and keep their fingers crossed that they get lucky, the guy sits out there for a week or two and then they swoop in with a low ball offer.

It's their MO and why we have zero NFCCG appearances in nearly 3 decades.

They could add one ...........I do not think they will consider a WRs outside the 1st round coz 4th round was spent on Mingo. In other words, I think either go all in at the position and draft an A-1 starter in the first or a late-rounder. Remember in Jerry's mind we have already used out 4th rounder on a WR.

I'm not sure right now that we do. Based on our FA signings, I'd count WR, CB and LB as our top needs at the moment.

At WR, the only starting player we have is Lamb. Turpin can probably be a No.3, but none of them have shown they can be a No. 2, which is a starting position. At corner, the only starter we have is Bland. At LB, Liufau is the only starter, at least until Overshown gets back. We can count Parsons there on some downs (maybe).

At all other positions, we have a starter. We may need to upgrade, like at RB, but there is a starting plan in place.

I hope the needs change before the draft because there are other positions I'd prefer to draft early, but I can't see any others where there is an absolute need.

Possibly.
But Cooks was to be the guy to stretch the field. Be the speed guy.
That did not work out.
All Kupp may be able to do is be a possesion guy. Which they do need that as well.

I like Kupp, wanted them to draft him. And am not opposed to them bringing him in. But is he that difference maker at this point. Maybe he can help.
I agree. And that's also what I would like Kupp for, to be a possession receiver and an underneath security blanket that can get six yards on 3rd-and-5.

Lamb is obviously the top target but Dak's main underneath target is Jake Ferguson. Would be nice to have another receiver fill that role instead of a tight end coming off a down season.

You got it............lol
Remember we haven't spent more than $6M on a free-agent play from the outside in years

This is the problem.
