What I don't get with these aging vets is their threats of retirement if they are not paid what they want. Don't get me wrong I understand that they want the most money they can get, but why the childish ultimatum ? It just screams the kid at the park who brought a football and threatened if their not the qb or whatever position they want then they will take their ball and go home..,again I understand last big money deal etc .. But when making ultimatums like that what does it say about their dedication or even willingness to play hard? What does it say about their character or desire to even play ? Hey hats off to Jared if someone out there backs the brinks truck up to him.. But time to move on.. I really hope that Dallas front office is not waiting by the phone like a teenager who just asked a girl to the prom... While she weighs her options.. Move on and ask another girl or just go stag ...good luck Jared Allen.. You are a tremendous athlete.. I think the Jaguars and Raiders are calling

Why don't we go after a guy like Shaun Phillips? He's 34 years old but I think he had double digit sacks last year. One of the most underrated pass rushers of this generation, in my opinion. We could probably get him for very cheap on a one year deal. We just need a slew of pass rushers. So far we really only have Melton and Selvie. I don't know how well of pass rushers Crawford and Bass are. We need 7-8 guys who can apply pressure. We have 2-4 at the moment. Why don't we pick up 2 more guys in FA and 2-3 guys in the draft? We don't need to overspend on Jared Allen. Just get a proven guy like Shaun Phillips for dirt cheap.

I second this idea, especially if we could get him on a 1 year deal until our draft pick gets his feet under him. He produces and would be fairly cheap, made $1M last year. Most outlets believe he had a great year last year with 10 sacks and played the run well.

This is from the bleacher report, but have seen the same sentiments from the Denver press about his performance last year.

If I were Jerry Jones I would offer Allen a 3 year contract that averages 7 million a year. A contract with a 7 million dollar signing bonus with a year 1 salary of 1 million, year 2 and 3 with base salaries of 6.5 million is more than fair for both parties. This is by no means a "low ball offer" and would pay Allen a significant amount of money without handicapping the boys in future years. With this contract his first year cap hit would be 3.34 million dollars but his cash payout would be 8 million. This would keep the boys safe from the restructure dance they have had to do, and it would allow Allen to get paid a fair market value. Allen can still get after the quarterback and would help solidify the defense. The boys should not mortgage their future though.

The Jared Allen market

Reports were that Jared Allen was looking for $12 million a year in what he called a "fair" deal. The market has been set for pass-rushing defensive ends and it's not $12 million a year.

Allen is a glaring name at this point in free agency. Players with a lot less production are already under contract. Allen threatened to retire if the right deal didn't come in, but I seriously doubt it will come to that situation. Allen can't turn down the right market deal especially if the world championship Seahawks become the leading candidate.

After studying him, I say Allen is better than most and will eventually strike a four-year deal worth $36 million ($9M average) with $17 million guaranteed. Don't be surprised if the Seahawks stay in the race for Allen.

Allen is smoking crack if he thinks he is going to get anything close to that. Peppers deal is really a 1 year deal and I guarantee Green Bay will make him take a pay cut after this next season or downright cut him. I think the contract I posted above this post is more than fair. If Allen wants more than that, they he can go pound sand.

I'd keep this report in mind. Kirwan and Pete Carroll are BFF's and it wouldn't surprise me if this isn't coming directly from Carroll and the Seahawks as a public negotiating tactic, letting Allen know in no uncertain terms how far they're willing - and unwilling - to go.

But $17 million guaranteed is a heckuva lot more than the $7.5 million that Peppers got.

I like Allen and wouldn't mind him here but put yourself in his shoes, does he have a better chance to win a Super Bowl in Dallas or Seattle?

Now before someone says it, Melton signed for the reason Marinelli is here as DC.

If winning is the deciding factor, it's no contest.

The only part of the whole equation where we might be able to do better is in the money department, and only then if Seattle decided to pay only so much and drew a line in the sand.

I expect Allen to land in Seattle on an already dominant defense, with the chance to win a championship.
