I'm pretty sure Jared Allen said he was going to talk it over with his wife this weekend after the visits before he even came to Dallas.

Hopefully if he decides to take less than 12 million he picks the Cowboys instead of the Seahawks. He'll just be a face in the crowd in Seattle; here he'll be THE MAN.

Unless Seattle offered dirt cheap it's hard to imagine he wouldn't go there. Has plenty of players around him to prevent offenses from focusing solely on him and Seattle is reigning champ.

Do we have the money without more restructures?

I snicker about the money.. The dude just finished his 6 year 69 million dollar contract with Minny in which he made every penny, which is hard to do in this day and age outside of QB's.

I want him though, but can't blame him for wanting to win more. If we could get him and add Donald in the draft the Dline will be a force. I'm still not convinced Melton's knee isn't going to still swell on him. He will be a full year removed by late September.

Well, I don't have to tell anyone that I want us to draft Donald... but I really want him to go along with Melton. Marinelli would find ways to use both of them, I can promise you that, and they would be terrific together. Used side by side in certain passing situations, and rotated some on a regular basis. They would be very difficult to handle for anyone's interior OL.

If we managed to add Allen to that, the entire defense would look like a different animal from last year. It would be a dominant team strength.

Plus, having Allen for a couple of years would give us that much time to find/draft a replacement for him instead of needing to find one right away. If Allen is close to our ballpark, I think they should find a way.

The retirement angle gives him a little leverage in contract discussions. I can't imagine he really desires to retire at this point. If anything, he will wait it out and hope for a better contract later in the offseason.

I don't think Jerry would've brought Melton and Allen in if he didn't have a plan to sign both. They still can restructure Carr if they have to.

I'm with you one Donald, and for others I was never on the Decastro bandwagon! I think he's a once every 10 year type player and IMO if a QB isn't there Zimmer is taking him for his New Geno.

I'm with you on Allen. People want to go young and I get that, but unless you are a freak you're not going to set the world on fire at DE as a rookie. I wanted Robert Quinn bad that year and its taken him this long to be a freak. Allen was made for Marinelli's style as he relentless.

True, but from a glass half-full perspective, one could hope he went back to Seattle to try to get them to match Jerry's offer, failed in that endeavor, and in the end money means more to him than playing for a Super Bowl champion with all of the pressure to repeat.

Jerry?

Its Stephen and Red _ with more control now making these decisions, NO?

You really think Minny goes with Donald at 8? I think they go QB like you said, but elsewhere than DT if one isn't. They just took Floyd last year and in FA they got Linval Joseph and Tom Johnson. Plus they resigned Fred Evans. They have sunk quite a few resources into the DT spot and I think a top 10 pick there might be a tad much, although you could be right. I just don't think so. They have a lot of needs elsewhere.

I think Donald will be there at Tenn pick at 11. If I were running things in Dallas, that's where I would probably start looking to trade a 4th and a 5th to move up 5 spots. That is in front of NYG and Chicago, the two teams I'm worried will take him. Tenn likely wants a CB and a good one will still be there at 16 (Gilbert / Dennard). I think they likely do it and if we get to 11 I think Donald would be ours.

Even though I defend Jerry quiet often I'd like to think at some point in the last couple years Stephen threatened to quit if he wasn't allowed to do more than just the math on these FA deals.

I have mixed emotions on signing Allen. He wasn't good last season. He was slightly better than average. Is that worth $8 mil per season? No. Is he worth $6 mil a season. That's probably in the ballpark. But I'm sure someone is going to give him a contract similar to Ware's.

I think he's gonna need someone to spell him or he'll wear down just because of his age but I got my head in the sand because it aint my money and I'd like to know whats out there in week 1. After all the the injuries this teams had it's a lil crazy to be wanting to bring in a 31 year old.

Defending Jerry or Bashing Jerry is fine either way, as long as its based in reality and accurate IMO. Most of it here in the Clown Zone is neither.

Carry on.

Any truth to the tweet that the Raiders might have upped their offer to Allen today?

I really hope he ends up coming to Dallas. I know we are tight on the cap but I like watching football not reading contracts (and I'm not smart enough to understand them anyway). But I am smart enough to understand that our D line got abused like a fat kid in a locker room last year and with him and Melton signing I would feel a whole lot more comfortable going into next season.
