Overall
Jared Goff is the number one overall player in the 2016 NFL Draft not just because he is the best quarterback, but because of his outstanding physical and mental talent which made him such a prolific signal caller at the college level.

As an 18 year old kid Goff was handed the keys to a broken-down Cal football program, but turned things around 180 degrees over the course of his three years. Cal threw him into the fire and won just one game in Goff's true freshman season, but the young quarterback did not shrink back amidst adversity and went on to lead Cal to five wins the next year and eight as a junior; all the while racking up record-setting passing statistics.

As far as his arm talent goes, there isn't a throw Goff can't make with ease. The ball comes out of his hand with marked zip and his throwing motion is as effortless as you can imagine. Goff also stands out above his peers in his ability to put touch and loft on the ball. Strength, accuracy, touch; he can do it all and is surgical when on a roll.

None of Goff's weaknesses are of a physical nature, and we are not concerned about his future development based on the progressive improvement he showed throughout his Cal career. Even when Goff made some bad decisions, he's shown a short memory and the ability to learn from his mistakes.

Jared Goff stands to be the biggest difference maker from the 2016 NFL Draft and should become a perennial Pro Bowl quarterback; just so long as he doesn't end up in Cleveland.

Well that sums it up on who we should pick. I like Goff or Wentz but leaning more to Goff.

I don't know who that scout is but he's on crack if he thinks Goff has a good arm..

A QB does not have to have a cannon for an arm to be good. In fact, quite a few "arm talents" fail as QBs because they lack touch and do not have it upstairs.

Weeden was a pretty good arm talent. Could not play.

One of the criticisms of Romo was that he had a weak arm.

If it's good, it's good. Doesn't need to be a rocket but can't be a noodle.

Goff is easily the #1 QB. Wentz is second, also a good prospect and nothing wrong with Lynch either

I can see being the #1 QB in this group but not the #1 talent in this draft. Connor Cook IMO looked better during the season, that bowl game did him no favors. I am sure the Cowboys can see through all this media diatribe, none of the 2016 QB's are ready to be playing the first year and that will be hard for the die hard fans to accept. IMO we need to maximize our time with Tony as a pause is coming.

Huh?

The only reason a "pause" needs to be coming is if you don't prepare for life after Romo and frankly I wouldn't give a crap what diehard fans think about it.

You are dreaming if you think drafting a QB this year means no pause in momentum with these QB's. I understand you do not consider or care what the fans are thinking most on here profess that opinion, Valley Ranch on the other hand does, so hence their values are different in talent acquisition. We are not working with hard yes and no considerations here, lots of shading. Like you I am frustrated with this team and its upper management which is frequently stuck in win prevention mode.

NFL front offices shouldn't care what fans think. Yes.

Why would I be dreaming about avoiding a down period after Romo if my scouting department has a franchise grade on the QB I draft? Why wouldn't I trust their evaluations and expect to have a quality player waiting in the wings when Romo is done? What are those scouts there for? Why doesn't this apply to other positions? Why aren't we dreaming about the CB or the DT or the LB too?

Strengths
Quality arm. Makes all the throws and can sling the deep out with velocity and accuracy. Clean release and snaps throws off with flick of the wrist. Drives hips through his release for extra heat. Pocket mobility and poise showed improvement from 2014 to 2015. Maintains proper footwork and readiness to throw as he slides inside the pocket. Speeds up internal clock when he feels pressure or recognizes blitz. Pocket climber. Able to run out of trouble rather than into it. Looks the part of a confident, first round quarterback when working from a clean pocket. Sells his play fakes with purpose and draws linebackers forward. Has learned to expedite his throws from off-balance angles due to pocket pressure. Will throw receivers open in tight quarters. Has excellent trajectory and pillowy soft touch on touch throws down the field that give receivers a chance to make plays. Showed substantial growth with his willingness to attack intermediate areas of the field and did so with accuracy and relative success. Completed an impressive 43.8 percent of his deep throws. Competes on third and long seeking out first downs over check downs.
Weaknesses
Hits a rough patch with accuracy from time to time. Sails throws over intended targets especially early in games. Has spots where he makes receivers work too hard on easy throws. Spent 99.8 percent of his pass snaps from pistol or shotgun this season. Will likely need to orient himself with NFL footwork from under center. Rhythm passer who benefited from the uptempo and "quick game" of Cal's Bear Raid offense. Has to learn fine line between getting ball out and rushing throws. Able to escape pocket, but isn't a proven finisher when on the move. Fumbled the ball 24 times over the last three years losing 11. Sacked 81 times over three years. Internal clock and poise will need to be monitored closely. Several of his interceptions came when he failed to read zone defenders underneath drifting up to challenge the throw.
NFL Comparison
Matt Ryan
Bottom Line
While Goff is a little leaner in the lower body than teams might like, he has good size, an NFL arm, advanced pocket mobility and the field demeanor of a franchise quarterback. His accuracy and decision making will suffer from occasional lapses, but he displays the tools to become a good starting quarterback with time.

Matt Ryan is a good comparison, I will be delirious if he turns out as good as Ryan.

That is a great comparison, IMO Ryan is stuck at the Dalton line and is taking on some of the hits that Tony took in the media not so long ago about not winning the big games.

4. Dallas Cowboys: Jared Goff, QB, California

The Cowboys have a tough decision to make. They could take a position player to help them immediately, as they hope to make a Super Bowl run with Tony Romo, or they could take Romo's successor. Romo turns 36 before the 2016 NFL Draft and can't be counted on stay healthy. Taking the longer-term view, Dallas may not have a better shot to land a good quarterback to replace Romo. Plus, Romo could easily be on injured reserve again next season and the veteran cast off route hasn't produced well for the Cowboys (see Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel). Taking a quarterback like Carson Wentz or Jared Goff would make the most sense for the long-term future of the franchise. In 2015, Goff completed 64 percent of his passes for 4,719 yards with 43 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He has a quality, accurate arm with field vision. Goff also has functional mobility to avoid rushers and pick up some yards on the ground. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder is lanky and could use more weight. He also could have some issues with getting rattled and handling the rush in the NFL. Holding up against the pass rush led to him having some mechanical issues that he's working on fixing. Goff enjoyed a breakout 2014 season. The sophomore completed 62 percent of his passes for 3,973 yards with 35 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He displayed real pocket-passing potential while playing with a less-than-ideal supporting cast. Goff became the starter as a freshman in 2013 and completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,508 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Perception, sentiment, call it what you want. Fans should have zero bearing on personnel decisions.

Fans could give a damn what happened or how it happened if the team wins. Don't win and the fans will complain no matter what happened or how. The ONLY thing the FO needs to worry about is figuring out how to consistently put a winning team on the field. That starts with QB. Can't believe so many people can't see this.
