I keep hearing all these folks asking why we didn't take him at #51 instead of trading out since Max Unger was gone. I've heard they would have taken him at #69 but the Bears took him at #68. Jerry was unwillingly to part with a 4th rounder because he knew he wanted McGee in the 4th.

My question on Gilbert is this: All the magazines and internet sites say what a great athlete he is and how he can be a 3-4 end or DT. If he can play so many position in a 3-4 how come no 3-4 team took him. 3-4 DE are hard to come by.

Denver
KC
Green Bay
New England
Miami
San Diego
Dallas
Pittsburgh

all passed him by 2 sometimes 3 times in the draft before he was picked by a 4-3 team. This tells me something about the guy.

If we stay at #51 we take Loadholt. I would rather have Brewster and D. Smith than Loadholt. No way I take a tackle in the 1st 2 rounds that can't play LT. Loadholt is way to big and slow to play LT, I think he is strictly a RT, I don't think he can play guard either.

We didn't want Gilbert apparently due to concerns about his back.

It was on The Ticket during the Draft.

I'm sure that's why Kiper gave us a D, Gilbert was his choice for best pick in the 3rd round. Hadn't heard about the back. Thanks.

Fans were high on Gilbert. Valley Ranch never was. I think he would have to have been there in the 5th for us to take him.

They also thought he was inconsistent. Not a big motor guy apparently. I think Mayock had him as a boom or bust guy like Michael Johnson.

Yup, I think part of the emphasis this year (and last) was on guys that are hungry to challenge, I'm happy with that aspect of this class.

Me too.

ANd that's why guys like Gilbert and Duke Robinson were not on the radar.

It's a good thing.

 I was so afraid Dallas was going to take that pile of shiz because he fit the Houck "prototype for offensive linemen"

fortunately Ciskowski was running the draft and not Jerry

Jerry always looks like he's running everything.

I look forward to the day when I watch a draft, they show the Cowboys' war room, and Jerry isn't there.

And it would behoove the franchise to let someone else speak about the draft and player acquisitions at news conferences.

I did not, but listen to Tom before the draft, and look at the draft picks, plus listen to Jerry tell that he defers to the scouts

Well seeing as how we know when that day will be, I think it'll be a sad day for the franchise. Just me, tho.

And I'd like the numbers to the next five mega lotteries. Has as much likelihood of occuring. :p:

One reason Dallas not drafting Gilbert despite his higher ranking didn't bother me is because the Cowboys did have him in for a visit.

To me, if a team has you in for a visit, or pays a visit to see you, and then doesn't draft you, then it obviously didn't like what it saw.

Same thing with James Casey. A lot was made of Dallas' interest in Casey, but it seems to me that the Cowboys really scrutinized him and must have not seen the things necessary to make them pull the trigger.

Of course, it could just mean they put a lower grade on them than when they were taken. But either way, there had to be something they saw during those visits that made them drop the players lower than they went, or made them desire the ones they took more. If they thought from those visits that those guys were going to be studs, then they had plenty of opportunity to act on it.

Well, Jerry Jones is an imbecile. He clearly did not see the Youtube.

Good point. I was surprised we didn't take Casey with all the publicity that was made about him. The media got sucked and so did I.
