I think he's improved every year. If he can make the same kind of improvement this year, then he'll be a top 10-12 QB which is good enough for me to want to re-sign him. It would be nice if our O-Line could block for more than 2 seconds. I really hope we take an O-lineman with our first pick.
If you look at the season in aggregate, you are right. However, he posted some insane stats at the beginning of the year when Portis was leading the league in rushing by 300 yds and regressed considerably afterwards.

He has serious problems reading a defense presnap and then going through his progressions. He usually locks onto one target and if that isn't there, goes straight to the checkdown. Maybe some more familiarity with the system may help that.

Secondly, he has a real accuracy problem. Well, not necessarily his ability to throw to a point but his ability to figure out where that point should be. All the great QBs hit their receivers in stride and this is important skill but it's hugely important in a west coast offense where RAC is vital. He's got to throw a ball that is not only catchable (which he has a problem with) but is easily caught because the receiver can't slow down/stop. I don't think is going to change.

Lastly, his deep ball is woeful. It's funny that noodle-armed Brunell can hit more deep balls than Campbell. And this hasn't changed or gotten any better. Campbell just has no touch.

He can succeed with a strong running game and decent defense but he's not somebody defenses fear.

The run game and pass game help each other out. So while you can say that Campbell played worse when Portis wasn't devastating defenses, you can also say that Portis stopped devastating defenses when Campbell started playing worse. To me, the common denominator is age and injury (which obviously go together) on the offensive line. They just weren't half as good in the second half of the year as they were in the first, and it hurt both Campbell and Portis.

He's merely average although he can look really good at times. His main problem as I have seen for the past two years is that he refuses to throw the ball until he sees the WR being wide open. This leads to him holding onto the ball way too long much of the time. It leads to constantly checking down and/or getting sacked or hit an awful lot. Its also the main reason for his low ints. When you only throw it to the check down or wide open WRs, you're not going to throw many ints. He is also very erratic with his accuracy. There are time when he looks perfect and I start to say "oh no, he's satrting to get it and play well" but then he turns right around the next drive and doesn't even come close with any of his passes. He certainly has the physical skills to be a good QB but I think he is lacking in the mental part. I don't think he reads defenses welland when you combine that with holding on to the ball too long and his long time consuming windup throwing motion, its just doesn't seem to work much of the time. To me, he is just average and will wind up a good to decent backup for someone when the skins finally give up on him. I would love to see the skins give him a longterm big money big bonus deal.
I agree that he can wait too long to get the ball to a receiver and that he has problems reading a defense. But I think those things get better with time and experience. And right now he is an average or slightly below average QB. With some slight improvement I think he'll be ok.

Campbell has the oppurtunity to be a very solid QB (Pennington, DelHomme, etc). BUT nothing more.
Romo has the oppurtunity to be a TOP 5 QB. AS in Brady and Older Manning and I would have to put Hamburger up there now.

I'm not a Campbell fan, Cowboys bias aside, but I do wish we could put him and Romo together. With Romo's ability and accuracy (pre-injured pinky) and Campbell's willingness and ability to protect the ball. I've always felt that Campbell's problem was his inability to anticipate. I think in the beginning of the year Zorn fooled defenses with his scheme a bit. Plus, I noticed early on that on big downs the Skins would look for Moss first. In the past, they would look for Cooley. Teams started to adapt to it and Campbell was a lot less effective (that and Portis getting banged up and Betts being injured for a few weeks).

I don't think the WCO fits Campbell very well.

If you all will recall, last year I got into quite a debate with Silverbear about the potential of Jason Campbell... I said that we'll know the mettle of Jason Campbell at the end of 2008. Well, here we are, 2009 and I wanted to poll CZ to see what you guys think of him. I understand that some fans' can't see past the jersey and will say "OMG, JASON CAMPBELL SUCKZ". Just understand that if that's you, then I won't take your response seriously and I won't be replying.

"OMG JASON CAMPBELL SUCKZ":laugh2:
