Is Rolando McClain abusing codeine? Is he out of shape? How much weight has he gained? Do the Dallas Cowboys think he will ever play for them again?

Watch as Bleacher Report NFL Insider Jason Cole discusses McClain's situation in the video above

Father of the year award!!!!

No doubt he failed the test on purpose because he wanted to spend more time with his kids. What a great father.

Another argument that has now been put to bed.

There needs to be something in contracts that allows owners to terminate a contract if players fail the substance abuse policy.

Why?

The club doesn't pay the player while suspended and the NFL "refunds" to the club any cap charges.

If owners hand the ability to disallow contracts based on failing the substance abuse policy I could see owners playing "games" with that.

No, keep the owners fingers out of it.

'well maybe it was codeine not weed that he was suspended for??
Sounds like he needs to be locked up in a padded room-rehab for about a year.
get checked for being bipolar.

Looks like his nfl career is over.

The sad thing about McClain is most of his troubles seem to occur when he is not in a structured environment, but then he does everything he can to not be in a structured environment.

From all accounts, he's a good teammate, not a problem in the locker room. He just doesn't want to immerse himself in that atmosphere and chooses instead of fall back into all his destructive ways.

but it's never as simple as you're painting it here.

When I think of the dude, I always remember this article:

McClain's Return from Days of Rage

It's a pretty good background on him.

The dude is done, because he didn't want to pay the price you pay to play professional football. It's a waste of talent. But it's not fair to paint the guy as a bad person or a disinterested father just because you're disappointed he's got issues with drugs.

I wonder if he gained this addiction to the meds from injuries he got while playing football.

It's crazy how society accepts some stuff and doesn't accept another.

Good Question Very Good Question no you can't smoke weed but here take these Vicodine Percocet Oxycodone and Norco smh I think Ro Mac is an idiot but this problem is more problematic than we think

That is exactly what I said about him. He needs to go because he doesnt want to play. I recall some poster getting edgy because they saw it more that he was being a great father. Which was laughable to me at the time. Now its laughable to everyone it seems.

Yeah you're right opiates are a slippery slope and these guys are put in a position with millions of dollars and peoples careers on the line to play ball at all cost. I remember Farve struggled with an addiction to pain meds also. Im not an apologist by any means but if RoMacs problem is an addiction to opiates then it is a legitimate beast. Sorry but I couldnt buy into a Marijuana addiction. Funny how arbitrarily it is decided what is legal and what is not.

Does anyone know how much money we save with McClain, Gregory, and Lawrence suspended?

Can't give you the answer myself because with suspended players you (the team) doesn't receive a big cap-refund prior to the start of the season... It's more involved than that.

I really thought missing 10 games would wake this guy up ...thought he was out in Alabama working his tail off getting in shape and studying film..I expected us to have a beast at MLB for the last 6 games plus our SB run

Being a Father was the agreed upon reason...with Jerry. I refuse to believe that the support staff are that naïve as to hand out a carte blanche.

I don't think it's laughable. We don't know what sort of person he really is. He
Might be a good father, he might not. He's not a dumb guy. He just is completely not committed to his team.

I agree he needs to go, though. That's obvious.

Agreed. No way the coaching staff can every endorse 'spending more time with your kids' as a valid and legitimate reason to avoid the mini-camp, training camp, or anything else.
