We are simply NOT a good power running team despite the amazing averages the backs have.

We ARE a good running team from spread formations. We run well in space and get stuffed in bunch formations for whatever reason.

Tony's too puny to sneak. Our line + those backs should have been more than enough. It was the SD game all over again, save for the final score.

He sat ... behind a lesser talented player. And thank goodness he had a breakout game his first game as a starter, otherwise there is no doubt Garrett would have pulled him and gone right back to Crayton.

What's the problem with having players prove themselves with the playing time they do get before inserting them into the starting lineup again? Had Austin showed any of the signs he showed in KC in any of the earlier games, he'd have seen his playing time increased. Just like Choice has after his stint last year, and just like Ogletree is (albeit gradually) now.

Dallas won despite Garrett tonight... That reverse crap was awful!

Yeah, apparently he listened to CZ experts who claimed running a trick play was a neccessity.

Because being "proven", in the case of Crayton, really doesn't mean that much when he's "proven" to be mediocre. You don't win Championships with mediocrity, so it's better to give the younger, talented guy attempt to improve over mediocrity.

Was there a reason why Miles Austin sat the first 5 games of this year (and all of last year) on the bench behind Patrick Crayton?

I'd love to hear it.

Yeah, it's kind of silly to just flatly state that the way the current depth chart is constructed is undeniably the way it should be.

Except Crayton isnt "mediocre" He's a quality player.

All we did was win 13 games and home field advantage with him starting all 16games in 2007.

What didn't you like about that play call (the call, not the execution) at that down and distance and in that game circumstance? Be specific.

You have a really bad habit of overrating our mediocre players.

Your Julius Jones love-fest being a prime example.

Romo is one of the toughest QBs in the league, he can fall forward for a few inches.

It wasn't necessary honestly, Dallas had enough momentum going on that drive to just keep attacking down the field but Garrett gets cute and calls that B.S.

Run the ball and your stupid.

Pass the ball and your stupid.

Trick plays are stupid.

Maybe Garrett should just punt on 1st down and avoid the criticism.

It's all relative to who's on the roster. Mediocre or not, Austin did nothing to unseat Crayton in his previous, limited, playing time. It was when it played great running after the catch against an awful KC secondary that he earned his PT. And that's the way it should be.

Austin played in less than 1/4 of the snaps and was thrown at only 4 times in the first three games. He's not going to produce anything given those kinds of opportunities, so his playing time would never increase.

To me, it was obvious in training camp that he was one of our two best receivers. That's when those types of decisions should be made. He shouldn't be getting only 1/4 of the snaps through the first month of the season.

Trick plays are for when things aren't working, or you're playing a superior team.

Garrett was an idiot for calling such a play, no ifs, ands or buts, especially when he didn't even have a QB in the play call. How silly.

That 4th and inches call with Kosier pulling across the back of the offensive line was baffling, to say the least.

I let out a few expletives at the TV.
Kozier pulled, then blocked Cricket in the back. Witten just pulled up and waited for the backfield to be penetrated instead of leading barber around the edge. And Barber still could have had the first down if he'd only been decisive and put his head down.

It was an awful call that was poorly executed.

Sham alluded last week to Austin being physically limited early in the year. I can't recall, honestly.

Either way, definitely, Austin's a case where we very likely should have been playing him sooner. I just don't see how you allocate playing time unless you're doing it according to effectiveness in actual games. There are too many factors that go into player performance otherwise.
