Ummm Garrett went for it in the first half and got it by running if Zeke doesn’t fumble.

and 4th and 2 from your 43 is giving them 3. Team got the ball back with 1:46 to go down 2. Clock was managed well. Not perfect because of timeout on other side of 2 mins but pretty good
Agreed...except it wasn't a fumble.

it doesnt matter. You cant coach scared
No. You go what the strength of the team is at that moment. Defense had played well all night and offense hadn’t been great on short yardage. Plus you had all 3 timeouts. It’s not scared it’s called analytics based on your teams performance in the game.

That critical 4th and 1 should've been anything else but running into a brick wall. An option where Dak keeps it or swings out and hits an open receiver for the first down, something.
You mean even though Zeke made the yardage Garrett should have anticipated Zeke fumbling and called something else?

Yeah Zeke has a tendency to try to do too much in those situations and since it's short yardage, more chances for a defender to stick his hands in there and poke the ball out.

At some point you have to take chances like Doug Pederson.

How do you do "too much" on a 4th and 1 run? By the way had they called him down that play would have stood as called too.

You should realize that Pederson doesn’t just think “nows a good time to go for it” just off a whim Matchups, current game performance, tendencies and field position all come into play.

what play should they run? Something with Zeke who was averaging LESS than 2 yards per carry?

how about a crossing route that was dropped by Cobb or stick route that was jumped by Lattimore earlier.

OR you can rely on your defense which is balling out to flip field position and get the ball back with a fresh set of downs

I've been against The Red Menace for years, but I don't see anything to complain about. We've been going for those 4th and 1s for years now. We usually make them. Made it this time, but for the supposed fumble.

I note that the game coverage was extremely light on showing replays for critical downs. Was Elliot's knee down? Never ever discussed. There was another big play where they broke to commercial and never even showed any replay.

The Saints' All Star Officiating Crew improved their record to 13-1.

Clown League.

Doug Pederson goes for it on 4th and 5 so I know for a fact he would have went for it on 4th and 2 lol

And he probably does it when he knows he has matchup advantages offensively or knows he’s compromised defensively and won’t get the ball back.

Real life football isn’t Madden.

if time is running out and you are losing you go for it. If it's 12 mins left of course you dont but when it is looking like you may not get the ball back you have no choice. it was 4 mins left and it was no need to punt

It's apparently the only 4th and 1 play we have.

Tired of Dive after Dive after Dive regardless of down and distance.

If we pitch it out sometime he goes the distance.

Oh, Jesus. I forgot how dumb this board gets after every single loss somehow.

Yeah, I just don't agree with this philosophy. Sometimes going for it more aggressively works out, sometimes it doesn't, it probably averages out at some point. If I'm the coach I'm strongly considering going for it on both of those 4th downs, but there were underlying issues in this game that resulted in a loss, not Garrett deciding to punt instead of going for it.

Kellen Moore is in charge of calling the offensive plays. He didn't call a single deep pass to keep the defense honest. That would've opened up more running lanes for Zeke.

garrett is the head coach.

He can go to Moore and tell him what to do.

Coaching doens't matter. Has zero impact on the game.

Dre told us that. You could have a his grandmother call plays and it won't matter. Because coaching has zero impact on game day.

If you’re down 4 maybe you go knowing that if you don’t get it then giving up 3 leaves you in same spot. Or if there had been 3 minutes left instead of 4. Because then it’s harder to get ball back outside of 2 min warning.

not getting the 4th down would’ve meant likely going from a 2 point game to a 5 point game which is a HUGE difference. Defense had been lights out all game. Plus 3 timeouts. Getting the ball back with 2 mins to go is an eternity for teams.
