I'm really questioning our playcalling in general. There is too much talent on this team for us not to move the ball more consistently than we do. We have two wideouts who have succeeded in huge ways in other systems, a tight end who is going to end up in the HOF, backs who can receive out of the backfield, a QB who can put the ball on the money and in stride who moves around extremely well and just makes things happen (mostly good, but sometimes bad). We have the most talent at skill positions in the league.

We need a change if things don't turn around as the year ends. Why not a west coast based offense?

We have all the pieces necessary to run a WCO. We have the big targets at wideout who can rack up the yards after the catch. We have backs who are good receivers out of the backfield. We have a nice target in the short passing game in Witten. We also have a QB who is normally accurate and does a good job of hitting people in stride.

I mean, I like taking the occasionally shot downfield, but I feel like we're limiting ourselves since we don't take advantage of some of the short timing based stuff more often than we do. Why not more slants? Why not more creative underneath stuff? Why not more creative in general?

Maybe I'm just frustrated after this loss to the Steelers, but I see so much potential just being wasted out there. A trained monkey could step into the OC position and score some points. We should be doing more though.

the series that really bothers me is the 1st qtr 3rd and 2 when we run trick play with TO....for 1 yard then go for it on 4th and 1 and run Deon Anderson for nothing.....in running situations i think you should use your RB...Choice would have gotten that with 1 of those 2 tries

The thing is, it wasn't even a full yard. We should have done a QB sneak.

Agreed. One area where we need a talent upgrade, though, is the 0-line. We're too inconsistent for my tastes, sometimes dominating while appearing highly suspect at others. We were spoiled in the 90's when we could count on the O-line to grind down the opponents and run down the clock at the end of the game once we had a lead. That's what we really need today but we couldn't do it.

we dont run those.

The play was fine to anderson. Jason witten blew his block and it cost us.

Terrell owens showed no heart at all on the third down play he should have had the first there.

If Anderson runs to the right, behind Davis' surge, he gets it.

I don't get running Crickett there. He didn't run to the surge. He ran into a stalemate and then got tackled.

Well maybe then Garrett should rely on his "philosophy" less and his talented players more, because his "philosophy" is being SERIOUSLY outcoached!

Ok, I am going to rant...

I have lost faith in this offense and I have lost faith in Garrett.

I know we have weapons. I know Romo has to get everyone involved. But I wish we could have a consist aspect to our team. Some weeks TO isn't making the catches, or Barber isn't effective running, or Romo is ineffective throwing. I guess our most consistent player is Romo/Witten combo.

Today that wasn't enough.

I feel we are trying to do too much. Some weeks we run, some weeks we pass, some weeks we dink and dunk, some weeks we throw deep. Its great to have that flexibility, but by the time we find out what we are going to need to win the game we are playing its too late. I think Romo has to do too much. Hes always there telling players where to line up, scrambling cause theres protection breakdowns, calling timeouts cause teammates don't know what their doing. Its like they are incompetent or unprepared without him.

/rant off

Okay. Then the philosophy is a problem. :D

To an extent, I agree. This offense is predicated on a vertical passing attack; however, it too often demonstrates a lack of flexibility by insisting on throwing vertically even when conditions or opposing defenses aren't conducive to deep passes.

Whether this tendency is due to Romo or the offensive play calling is anyone's guess.

You nailed it. I was thinking the same thing at one point in the game where they're showing a replay right before that long throw to Witten. Watching him struggling just to get the ball snapped because people don't know what the hell they're doing is frustrating. I can only imagine how frustrating it is for him.

and Bennett later blew an inside seal on Harrison...do these guys think they are so talented that they just have to show up?

Further proof that Dallas has some fundamental problems on offense, especially running the ball.

Too many days off considering all the broken routes, miscommunication and break downs. They had TEN DAYS to prepare for this team...what really looked odd was Romo running for the heater when we was'nt throwing ducks downfield.

it was for about a length of the football. when its that close 99% of the time other teams will QB sneak, just like pittsburgh did on a similar situations. that call pissed me off to no end. right after they measured, i was like "its QB sneak time" but sure enough they give it to cricket. unbelievable.

That's on Garrett, not the players. His offense is like a skeleton of apendages (i.e. all gimmick schemes and wrinkles) with no spine (i.e. no base offense on which to build consistency).

Since '03, why do we always look flat coming out of Thanksgiving? It was no different from last year when we needed a miracle to beat lowly Detroit.(If that Lions' defensive player had just fell on Romo's fumble, instead of trying to scoop it up and be a hero, that would have sealed the game) Same with the year before when we barely beat a Giants team that had so many in-house issues.(The Giants beat us statistically 2-1, and pretty much kicked us in the teeth)

I just don't think he and Wade are on the same page.
