This game was to evaluate players, but also win if it could be done without showing too much. All those running plays in the red zone were designed to test the runners. That was done. Getting a touchdown would be gravy, not the meat of the meal. IMO.

Oh yeah, absolutely.

That was our whole offense....not just the RZ. We had very few plays even in between the twenties.

We executed.

This team isn't as good (our 90s teams were probably the best ever), so we have to get a little more creative in the RZ. The Colts were stacking up against the run.....I believe the four 1st and 2nd down plays we ran were all inside runs.

Again, first PS game.....We're not going to be very creative. Probably in the reg season, we'd see more PA.

I'm really rooting for Garrett. His roots with the team makes everything extra special. What really seperates the great teams IMO is redzone and inside the 10 execution and playcalling. I love the way N.E. calls plays inside the 10. Theres nothing like a great play action and sneaking a WR behind the LB's/Safeties. We actually did a pretty good job last year and we have alot of weapons. If Fasano is going to develop like I think, he and Witten will terrorize seams and the middle this year. I'm trying to control my giddyness. Good to see the Boys back in action.

Actually our redzone playcalling wasn't that great with the triplets in the 90's either. We would just run Emmitt or draw Emmitt with a dominating offensive line. Either that or Troy would look for Novacek in the middle. We were just better than the opposition. I'm not at all concerned at this point. I have confidence that Garrett will be creative.

Well my post before this one was hoping they were just trying different things in the preseason and if it was regular season game they would have called it different. I HOPE he doenst try to be that Cowboys of the 90's and do the same thing.

I told my dad that it's just preseason playcalling or hes gonna call it just like they ran it the 90's. This team cant do like that.

The answer is probably somewhere in the middle. A lot of the philosophies of the 90s( like utiliIzation of the TE) will be similar. I think Jason's a bright enough guy to change things up when needed though.

Right. Our line is not that dominant (not yet anyway) and we don't have anybody running quite as instinctively as 22 (although MB has an incredible nose for the endzone). With everything that I'm hearing about moving Owens around, and the progression of Fasano, I like the direction we're headed in. It's the first preseason game. I'm pretty happy with what I saw. Romo didn't force anything too risky.

I like the fact that he has FULL control of the Offense! I like the play calling overall, (but i do agree the red zone plays called were some what shakie)..

I loved how it looked how he has beating on Romo and some of the other players LOL, they were having fun! If they have Fun and enjoy it? It'll be a better outcome on the feild

It is pre-season I don't think you can say one way or the other how Jason would handle the redzone during the reg season

I don't think I did say how would handle it in the regular season.

I said I was enamored with it last night. I thought it was very vanilla and he went away from things that were working perfectly.

He'll get it. I have no doubt about that. His enthusiasm last night will have players wanting to run through walls for him.

But last night the play calling in the red zone stunk.

As you said it was "very vanilla" and that is to be expected in a pre-season game. You may feel the red zone play calling stunk but maybe they wanted to see certain things more than being concerned about scoring the TD that is what pre-season is for.

That doesn't change anything Dooms. It's a great comfort for the sunglasses and koolaid, but that's about it.

Nothing koolaid about it, it is pre-season it is not reg season and the goals are different right now than what is will be in a reg season game.

Once the run blocking solidifies, everything else will become easier. Also, it's more about seeing how the players play rather than scoring.

I read every article this morning.

No one panicked.
Be patient my friend.
I believe I said if we had another preseason game like this with stalling in the red-zone the worry warts would come out. ;)
