When Spencer was healthy with injured or diminished Ratliff and Ware (and with the disappeared Hatcher) he had his best season.

7.5 sacks for Spencer came from Cleveland on. Ratliff didn't play after that and Ware had 2 sacks in that span.

Seems odd to be suspect of Hatcher's production because it came in the absence of Ware, Ratliff and Spencer when it was only in the absence of Ware and Ratliff that Spencer was particularly productive.

Which is a weird follow up to the statement above about Hatcher only being productive when Ware and others are out or diminished.

So what you're really saying is that Hatcher needs Ware on the team, but that he also needs Ware to be unproductive?

What I'm pointing out is that Hatcher was only truly effective once the rest of the DL was absent or injured.

When they were the in place..he wasn't that apparent.

That's what I'm saying.

When he was paired with more talent..he stepped back.

If you are going to keep him and pay him a big contract thinking you can build with him..

can you really?

I think not.

And I suspect the team sees this.

Hatcher had 1 good year and it was in his last chance at getting a nice contract. Hatcher has been a JAG most of his career, signing one of those 2 is the better option because they're 5 years younger and have had more production.

Hatcher has had 3 good seasons, the first two were in a 3-4 where he still was only a 2-3 sacks less than Melton in those years who was playing the much easier 3 tech.

And Hatcher's rookie season was only 2-3 sacks behind these other "good seasons". Can we slide the scale a little bit more?

I doubt it. Their cap situation is as bad if not worse than ours. They are actually letting go of players that can play like Sproles.

Yea it's an almost impossible fit but you never know if Ryan really wanted hatcher and spencer went there on the cheap.

Hatcher is a Louisiana guy and spencer has already become rich and both liked rob Ryan.

I believe in Hatcher. Yes, he's chasing dollars. But that makes sense given that his earning have been minimal and his career is almost over. His timing has been horrible until now. I also think he's a hard worker who won't just coast after getting paid.

I don't know what to think he'll truly command in the open market. He turns 32 in July. I could see him ending up back in Dallas.

given the 2013 sad performance by the def front group as a whole I see Dallas moving on from age and getting a new group established. im certain we will spend 2 picks on the front 4 and I hope the team goes DT in FA. I like to see young dlinemen get into a large rotation. Hatcher is looking for 20 mil to close out his career. 10 of that guaranteed

Hatcher has been a solid player and I wouldnt be overly concerned paying Hatcher for a 2 to 3 year deal at 3 to 4 million a season. I would be very surprised if he gets much more than that on the open market. Max I would say Hatcher gets is a 3 year 16 million deal.
