Is anybody listening? Has anybody read the article in Star Magazine with his quotes? Thoughts?

"Bad film" followed by "bad audio?" Why listen? The backpedalling is the ever predictable CYA kind of thing after talking stupid.

He's already out the door and thinking about what comes next. Part of me can't blame him too much when you consider who is conducting the big show.

I read on dc.com where he is venting lightly on his contract situation. He needs to just focus on getting back healthy and being the valuable player he is on the line for us. Let everything else take care of itself.

This team's salary cap is too screwed up to keep him. The salary to extend Hatcher when to Ratliff. He knows he won't be here next year, even if the's the best DT in football. It sucks for him but hopefully he gets a big payday because he deserves it.

He's played very well. I don't disrespect the man or the player. But as you said: after all the cap mismanagement...there's not enough money hidden in the mattresses to pay the player. He will most certainly walk out of town free and clear.

He'll be 32 when the 2014 season starts. It's doubtful that he get a huge payday.

People complain about Jerry giving out bad contracts, but then nobody wants to let a Free Agent leave or cut an overpaid player like Ware.

I agree. People get way to sentimental in regards to ware. If we can save around 10 mil in 2014 by moving him, I think we need to explore those options, especially if we're going to be in cap hell.

I have no problem letting Hatcher walk and I think hes a very good player.

We simply cannot afford him.

No, we aren't going to be in cap hell. We always structure big deals to have massive cap hits in their 2nd and 3rd years -- that allows us to spread money out if necessary or clear the big hit if not. That is how it is planned. According to that plan, we'll free more than 10 mill from Romo's deal and likely about 6 from Carr. I'd expect about 4 from Lee as well. Right there is the 20 mill over everyone is hand wringing over. Also, Kyle Orton presently has a pretty large base for 2014 that will likely be amended and we certainly won't see Austin making 5.5 mill if he remains on the team. Ditto on that with Bernie's 2.25 mill base for 2014.

And we'd save more like 7.5 mill by moving Ware. That would actually be a substantial savings but the people on the board who don't understand the cap would cry about "dead money."

He isn't going to cost very much -- also new deals are always very cap friendly in the first year. We'd have little issue re-signing him.

Signed,

So true. Abe and Jerry seem like a match-made-in-heaven when it comes to addled brains and salary cap debacles. Hopeless egos also seem to match as well.

You can justify signing Hatcher but I'm under no illusions it is going to be cheap. 5 years 35 million at least if not 40 or 50.

The thing is we really have no replacements so you have to account for the fact we would have to go out and sign somebody in FA anyway. Unless you are that confident in Hayden/Crawford. I think the signing can certainly be fit under the cap if you let Spencer go. Don't forget that there is cap money off the books on the Ratliff release as well (if not next year it clears up money the years after that which could be used in a Hatcher deal).

I was on record saying we let Hatcher walk but that was pre Ratliff debacle. I now think they should resign him and hopefully Crawford/Hatch is a good combo for the next 3-4 years. He should be the one big signing they make the rest should go towards churning the lower end safeties and LBs. Bottom line is we have to hit on Carter,Claiborne,Crawford and Johnson/Wilcox if we are going to be any good within the next few years. Ideally I'd like to draft a high end DE in the first round to replace Spencer.

I agree. And every time I see your "secret sauce" thing, I laugh.
Back on topic...A baseball saying, but I think its true in every single sport.

Let him walk. Let him see what he can get on the open market. He is playing great for us, but a deal he has in mind isn't on the table.

You always downplay the cap as being a hindrance , but do you miss all the players that are needed to fill holes when the cap prevents signing them? Every year Dallas needs a free agent or two that could help the team and every year the cap prevents it. I am not talking about big money free agents. The lower tier veteran free agents are the ones that they can't afford.

Cutting Ware?

You must be a cap guru.

Hatcher's been talking about the end of his Cowboys tenure for sometime...at least since last year. As he's gotten more vocal and his play more recognized, more people have heard it.

I think it's natural of him to want to finish his career in Dallas. He's settled there and he doesn't want to have to move his family. Life in the NFL, tho. Rarely do you retire with the team that drafted you. However, I'm all for him getting as much money as he can. So whether he's here next year or not, I'll root for him, because I think he's a good guy.

Here's a quote from this article. ---> http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/a...-Dallas-/cef1ce25-ef5e-4efe-8c37-e79e1baedb2e

“Yeah, I can understand the Cowboys not signing me to an extension before this season started,” Hatcher said. “But at the same time, I know for a fact that I have outplayed my contract, and for those guys not to acknowledge it, it’s just one of those things I’m starting to lean on, starting to think about more and more. I’ve talked to my family about the worst-case scenario, playing somewhere else.
“The longer I play without a deal, the more my value goes up. I don’t want to hear about I’m 31 years old, either. I’m one of the best in the league at my position. So, yeah, it’s hard not to think about. You can’t put a gun to those guys’ heads and make them step up to the plate and do something. Maybe I’m not that guy for them, but thank God there are 31 other teams out there. I guarantee there’s a lot that love me as a player.
“I would love to retire here, that’s always been the dream, but it’s just one of those things. Every game that goes on, it’s kind of disrespectful. You start feeling a little disrespected.”
