Would have saved a ton by cutting him? I'm done with this argument. You're being ridiculous.

Yes we would have saved a ton. His entire 11.5 million base salary would have come off the books if we cut him. Since it was the last year of the contract that means we would have saved..... 11.5 million if we cut him.

It makes me sad that you don't understand these basics yet continue to come into threads spouting off. Just sad.

Is that your way of saying "you are right" b/c 11.5 mill is a ton of savings

Wasn't there like an $8 million cap hit in 2014 if Romo's contract was voided? Not to mention the cost of finding another starting QB on top of that. What you're suggesting was never an option in the first place, which is why Romo commanded so much leverage in negotiations. You tried to frame it as though the Cowboys were in control of the situation with the cap and Romo's deal, when in actuality they practically had a gun to their head.

That 8 mill is there either way. That's what we owed on his bonus. There was no additional bonus accelerated into the cap if we cut him because it was his final year. You cut him it is there, you keep him it is there. Jerry had no gun to his head. The team had every intention to work out a new deal with Romo. That deal was pretty darn favorable for us -- despite how it is reported, the deal's numbers are grossly inflated at the end instead of 7 year 120 mill it is more like 5 year 80 mill - we could even cut him after three years and save considerable cap space. I'm not really seeing how what you are calling leverage got Tony something unreasonable.
