This is what Stephen Jones told the Media today:

CORY: Is the plan at the moment for Tampa for your tackle to be an in-house person?

STEPHEN – “The plan is for it to be an in-house person.”

They aren’t bringing anyone in.

With our cap space, if we are making a move I'd like it to be for a player better than McGovern. Not an if McGovern struggles guy. And for the record I think Jason Peters at OG is better than McGovern and would do this if no one better can be had
Peters is a LT though

Jason Peters is old, but yet still is productive. He has experience playing both G/T and will come cheap. He could provide nice insurance if either Smith or McGovern struggle.

Don't know if the bolded part is true. I would think one of the reasons no one has signed him is because he won't come cheap.

Peters played for under $2 million last season. He is what the Jones Boys want

He was also coming off a bad season and it looked like his career was finished. He had a pretty good year for Chicago last year, which could have upped the asking price. He may just wait until some team is desperate enough to throw bigger money at him.

If they bring in a vet players, such as Peters or Fisher, they will wait until after game 1.
When his salary is not guaranteed. And yes, all teams do this. It is not Stephen being cheap.

They may want to see how their plan goes game 1.

That would be most prudent from a salary standpoint. Cut ties if need be without lasting cap ramifications, even small.

not going to happen until after week one when contracts aren't guaranteed.....all these rumors of Dallas trying to trade for a tackle is just nonsense....

For the bulk of his career yes, but Didn’t he play Guard the last 2 years? Even in Philly he was re-signed to play guard his last year but injury moved him back to OT. My understanding is teams are looking at him as a guard now

I honestly don't know. You may well be right.

Again, he was coming off a poor season. His value (at least in his mind) may be up because he started and played pretty well for Chicago last year. Unless he just needs whatever he can get, I can't see him signing for less than double what he made last year.

It appears the only way they will consider bringing in a legit/potential starter, Tyler probably will have to fall flat on his face like Chaz Green. In other words, he would have literally cost us a game or two.

While this is true, when you don't have to work anymore unless the right offer comes along, you can be choosy. Peters has said he wants to play, but maybe he might only want to play if the price is right.

Scrape tha bottom of the slop barrel. There is always a nugget we missed from a barrel of slop.

40 years old.
looks like a 2-door refrigerator...

OK, the Secret Camera Girl is bound to come out any time and tell me you were being mirthful about Peters, correct, old boy old sultan?
Very funny, indeed, good lad.:)

I read some comments from Peters that made me more interested in this option. He talked about how he could come in and mentor younger guys or sit back and let others lead. Whatever the team needed.

He showed he still had something in the tank last year. Willing to play inside or out.

Yeah, he's 40 but it is rare that you get the chance to add future HoFers

Prime example of what the well-intentioned but naive fanbase will believe or tolerate.
We donn need no stinkin mentors! Mentors are for the feeble. We can't have feeble people as players.
If we need mentors, surely the injured Tyron or Zack will do.
Frankly, chaps, the fascination by Jerry and the fanbase with Big-Name has-beens is of concern.
What this team needs is to continue its skew to youth, develop its young and demand attention to detail i.e. no gunfire, no scissors fight, no offsides and no holdings.
I have said too much and me forehead is wrrinkled in consternation.
