It appears the only way they will consider bringing in a legit/potential starter, Tyler probably will have to fall flat on his face like Chaz Green. In other words, he would have literally cost us a game or two.
BUT...
This is exactly what everyone is glossing over. The assumption that it will be a success story from college LT to pro LT.
It doesn't happen that way quite often. 4 year LT out of UT they just got rid of only played guard. Their current All Pro RG out of Notre Dame played 4 yrs of LT in college. He doesn't even want to play tackle. I could go on but that's just with this team.
My point is there should be a back up plan if this kid turns out to be a better guard than tackle. They actually need to grab a vet like Fisher(or some vet with some juice left)on a 2 year deal. Let him play LT this year and put Tyler back at where he's practiced at guard.
If Fisher(or other vet's) performance is more indicative of short term vice long term solution then you open up a full on competition in TC with Tyler next year giving him just as many snaps at LT as Fisher(or other vet) and let the best man win.
I'm not a believer in not having a solid back up plan to this replace within philosophy.
Gosh forbid the kid is better suited to be a guard.
