rotoworld on Jason Williams

Panthers coach John Fox was happy with the play of WLB Jason Williams in his first start.
Williams racked up seven tackles, accounted for two turnovers, and broke up a pass against Cleveland. "He did some good things," said Fox. "He made a nice play on the caused fumble, fumble recovery. I think, like new guys, he will get better and better." The 69th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Williams should be grabbed immediately in all IDP leagues for the stretch run. The physical certainly tools are there.

Start the ruing.

I truly hope Garrett doesn't share this experience over ability no matter what mentality that Tuna and Wade have/had.

when I look at how slow and old Brooking is...and how slow and aging Brady is...I never understood how we could not find a way to get someone that could run and hit on the field. That is the job of COACHES. We are weak on the interior on defense (S, ILB, and NT) and offense. And when you are thin at ILB and have a guy you made your FIRST overall pick just 2 years ago, never understood why we gave up on him so quickly.

And for those ready to jump all over me for saying we are weak at NT, I am on record saying I think we would be better served putting Ratliff at DE and put a space eating hog at NT. That is what the BEST 3-4 defenses do. They allow there inside pressure to come from ILBs. I am aslo on record saying we will NEVER see the full potential of our 3-4 until the play of our ILBs comes close to matching the play of our OLBs.

I am always amazed at how many people come to the defense of Bradie James...he has always been average, will never be anything more than average, and if we miss him when he is gone, that would mean we simply cannot scout/coach the position.

I mean, did anyone ever think there would be a day when we would miss Ken Hamlin and Roy Williams? That is how TERRIBLE we are at scouting/coaching the Safety position. Near the end Roy was not great, but he was not nearly as bad as some made him out to be and he certainly made MORE plays than all of the guys we have played at Safety combined since he has been gone.

His treatment of Barber/Choice so far doesn't look promising.

Plus I don't know how much say he had in starting/playing personnel under Wade, but it sure took a long time for Austin to get on the field (and he only did because of injury) or for Felix to be given a more prominent role.

After I watched Jason Williams just look completely lost in coverage, I was ready for him to be gone anyway. So what if he's a good athlete. He's probably going to be the guy QBs exploit in coverage any time he's on the field, and we have enough of those already. :laugh2:

He's a 4-3 OLB, not a 3-4 ILB. Anyway, he's a Panther, and won't be a monster. Just decent.

Good for him. Of course people will rue, but they shouldn't be ruing that he's gone they should be ruing our terrible draft strategy in 2009. Maybe we'll finally start to actually draft players instead of projects and guys that have no position on our team.

Couldnt cover, bad attitude, didnt work hard, you can have him.

When I said I still think this kid has a chance no 1 belived me and probley still don't, but the kid is a PROJECT and it will take time, but please belive me when I say he's gonna be a player.....................I gess just not here

Sigh. I have explained so many times why that is a bad idea, but I don't want to waste more time explaining it and defending why Ratliff is a better NT than he ever will be as a DE if it will fall on deaf ears.

If you have an open mind and are willing to listen to my reasons, I'd welcome your ears. If I'll be talking to a brick wall, I'd rather not waste my words.

He'll excel in the 4-3 as OLB, the position he excelled at in college. Too bad we don't run the 4-3. I'm tired of drafting players and having them go through that adjustment of positions.
