I was wondering if those who have been to camp have any information concerning Jason Williams thus far.

We know where he was moved positionally and that his opportunities may currently be limited to ST play and support roles.

However, it would be nice to read a report of his work habits and progression up until this point.

I am really excited about Victor Butler and Brandon Williams development in camp thus far, we may have some players after all.

Supposedly he's having a harder time moving to LB than Butler is. It's not easy to translate from the DL to LB. At least not for everyone.

At least a camp pick Hos? Hee Hee :lmao2:
I looked for one I swear.

Someone I trust says his speed is unreal. He is raw, but has unreal potential. I don't expect him to contribute much beyond Special Teams this year and relief late in games on blowouts. James, Brooking, and Carpenter will be the ILB guys on the field more.

Thanks for the update bro, I sure hope he turns out to be special, the kid seems to have outstanding speed and ability.

I know he is raw and essentially buried in the depth chart but hearing this encourages me about this kid.

Even if we can get two or three solid Lb's out of this draft then I will be thrilled!!!

From where he's coming from, i'd be surprised if it didn't take him till year 3 to really get down the ILB possition. But hey, if we stay healthy we won't need him too many snaps this season.:crossed:

My bad. Since I've added to the confusion, JW is the rookie from Western Illinois who played LB there. It's BW from Tx Tech who played DE there and is moved to OLB.

However, Butler does seem to be learning better than JW or BW. Butler is a former DE out of Oregon State.

Jason is supposedly competing for the nickel/dime LB position and played the Mo in college. He started out as a safety to give you an idea of his athletecism.

Butler and BW are OLBs.

played ILB tonight. I believe that's where the Cowboys want to play him. I didn't see Brandon Williams #59 out there. I'm watching the game right now and I've yet to see him.

Just wondering, how do you know Bulter is learning better then Brandon Williams, when B Will never played tonight?

Jason Williams didn't look too bad tonight. He needs to be more physical taking on blocks at the point of attack and has to get quicker on his reads, but he showed that he can fill the hole against the run and really showed off his athleticism on a couple of plays (he drilled the QB on a blitz and ran down the QB on the sideline for a near-sack to force a throwaway). He looked a little like a bigger, more athletic Kevin Burnett.

Bingo..

Which is why he looked lost tonight. I'm a little worried ( for him ) because if he's not mentally strong, he could turn into another Carpenter. The Cowboys need to monitor him very closely and make sure to not only put him in some situations where he can succeed, but also make sure he understands that it's a process that he will not learn overnight.

I think the perfect example they should bring up to show him is James Farrior from the Steelers who was considered a bust with the Jets and it took him a few years until finally the light came on in his last season in NY and then with the Steelers after that.

His worst plays were a couple downfield in coverage, which everyone knew he was going to have to adjust to as he rarely played in reverse in college, and was mostly rushing upfield from his LB spot.

His speed is very evident though, and once he figures out all the assignments he should be fine. Anyone who thought he was going to come in and play extensively on the regular defense from day one was on crack crack, he's a ST and backup right now and will most likely be ready to be a regular defensive contributor next yr.

Watching the game last night, Jason Williams looked a lot thicker that i thought he would be, especially considering how fast he's supposed to be.
