Anyone hear how this guy is doing?

Is he not impressing the powers that be? A secret weapon to be activated for the superbowl? Imprisoned in a hole dug out of Jerry's basement waiting for his skin to be harvested?

Seriously, I have not heard about his progress recently.

He's a rookie who hasn't played pretty much all year. It's the playoffs. You do the math.

Really have not heard much about him other than he was injured. Like many rookie players it may take him some time before he is ready to contribute much.

He was injured, but I have seen him play some on special teams. Remember the key fumble he caused in one game this year? Also, Jason Williams was an outside linebacker, the cowboys are converting him to inside linebacker. At inside you have bradie james and keith brooking, and with bobby carpenter playing on passing downs at coverage linebacker, your not going to hear too much from him.

Another thing to think of is that wade phillips doesnt like to play rookies on his defense too much.

This coaching staff is great at developing players. Especially undrafted ones. It's yet to be determined, but I have confidence that Jason Williams will be an impact player in two years.

I agree and yes he has seen some action on special teams. I also think it is more than Phillips not playing rookies it is about putting players on the field who are ready and most rookies are not.

If Dallas was a team in the rebuilding stage you would be more likely to see rookie players getting some playing time but when you are a team who expects to compete then you must go with the players who you know understand the system and can carry out the assignments. Last thing you need is a player who is getting confused.

I think with a good off season program and training camp Williams will get more of an opportunity to play

I understand what your saying, but I point to the first game jason williams was in, he caused a fumble in the endzone or near it and turned into points for the cowboys. Jason Williams is very quick, fast with like 4.49 speed, which is unheard of for a linebacker. The last linebacker that I am aware of wiht that kind of speed was the Commanders linebacker flether, who played for the rams.

Speed kills, like jimmy johnson said.

Its up to the coaches to get the players ready to play.

On special teams? I have no doubt about Williams raw abilities but the game at this level is more than just the raw ability, the mental aspect at this level is just higher.

I don't say this to knock Williams and I think when the coaches feel he is ready to see more action then he will.

You are right it is up to the coaches to get a player ready but it is up to the player to prove he is ready.

Ogletree is seeing limited action because he has shown them enough that they feel comfortable using him in certain packages they want to run. Being a rookies is not as much of a factor than being ready to play and understanding what is needed from you.

Wade doesn't play rookies. JW played in a weird defense last year so he has alot to learn. No way Wade is putting a rookie in their with his job on the line. Williams will get to compete the the nickle backer spot in TC next year. Thats when you will start to hear his name again.

I don't understand why this is even a concern. Is there some kind of injury threat to Brooking, James, or Carpenter that I am unaware of? Is he somehow the magical difference in post season success all of the sudden? I swear, we worry about some odd things.

I love all the Wade Phillips Bandwagoners finally coming out. Not to say you just jumped on, but it's funny to see others hopping on the train. Who'da thunk it, eh?

Cheers to you, Zrin.

Yep, he has even more to learn than your typical rookie. No surprise he's redshirting this year.

But he has tons of ability, so I expect big things once he's up and rolling. It's going to be cool seeing a guy with his speed and athletic ability free to run to the ball.

I am actually entirely unconcerned about him not playing right now. I think he is an intriguing player and was interested if anyone knew about his progress.

Don't you think it's easier to integrate a rookie receiver into a game where all he has to know is a particular route and who he has to block versus a rookie linebacker who has to know his responsibility in run and coverage schemes?

Yes I think it is easier to work in a WR than to work in a LB especially in a 3-4where the LB has a lot more responsibilities. I do think however Wade like most coaches will play guys who show they are ready. Jenkins and Scandrick both saw action last year and I would say playing CB in the NFL is about as difficult as it gets.
