Witten, soon to be the tight end with the 2nd most career receptions in NFL history..............drafted in the third round.
I have a hard time thinking of any greater 3rd-round pick in NFL history.
Assuming this is Gonzalez's last year, Witten will have to play for an additional 6 years. Not completely out of the realm of possibilities, but it'll be tough no doubt.
One thing to note is that Gonzalez is playing on his second team. So we'll certainly see how things play out for Witten.
Joe Montana.
That wasn't hard.
There is no way Witten plays 6 more years. At least not at this level. If he gets any slower he'll be in reverse - with all due respect.
Today's TE's are totally different - we'll figure that out in qat t
You can add Art Shell and Jackie Slater as well - two HOF'ers.
Witten has 814 catches through one game at age 31. Gonzalez had 726.
Emmitt had 10,229 yards through one game at age 28. Peterson has 8,942.
Witten has a much better chance of passing Gonzalez than Peterson does of passing Emmitt.
There's been a lot of lower draft picks make it huge. Tom Brady was a 7th round pick.
