Interesting turn around here. A few years ago anyone even mentioning the words "Super Bowl" would be shouted down by the "anointing oil" people and the "just shut up and play" crowd.
My little experiment is interesting!
Because our team was no where near Super Bowl caliber. Anyone not wearing Cowboys-colored glasses could see that.
The causes for optimism this year are:
1. We beat Seattle in Seattle last year so we know the Seahawks aren't unbeatable.
2. We have established a dominant offensive line, which is where you win games, i.e., in the trenches.
3. Romo is playing virtually mistake-free football.
4. We didn't embarrass ourselves in Green Bay. We actually had a good chance of winning that game despite a very pedestrian defense that finally got exposed.
5. We added playmakers on the defensive side of the ball and will have another year under Rod's scheme.
6. We now have a sense of confidence that I really haven't seen since the 90s. Even in 2007, I wasn't really confident in that Cowboys No. 1 seed team because the defense was suspect. We would have gotten shredded by the Patriots even if we had reached the Super Bowl. I feel a bit more comfortable in this defense, provided everyone stays healthy.
So it's slightly different this year than in previous years. So I'm not put-off by Witten's comments. Besides, when has Witten ever said something like this? I think he senses it too.
