I must be in a minority or something, I like Jim Rome is Burning.

.

You are.

I like Rome's show ... mostly radio, but that's rare on this board. When Rome's name is mentioned, the venom begins to fly from this group.

He's the best interviewer in sports, has apologized and learned his lesson from "The Incident" nearly 20 years ago, but some won't move on.

...did he ever explain his behavior that fateful day with Jim Everett? I've seen the clip, but I never saw him discuss the event after the fact.

Great post. I still like him too. I used to listen to him every day at lunch before I latched on to Sirius. Now I listen to Sirius NFL radio and don't really have time for Rome anymore. That said, I still enjoy the rare occasion of hearing his radio show.

Could someone give me a brief summary of what the Jim Everett incident was all about? I don't remember this and I'm on a mobile device so it's kind of a pain to google stuff right now.

A little harsh dont you think Yeags?

Jim Rome is like the Soupy Sales of broadcasters/anchors/talk show hosts whatever. May he rest in peace.

And if ah may say so, his 14-year-old-sounding voice is equal to his intellect.

OK, years ago, little jimmy was calling Jim Everett "Chrissy" Everett. Chrissy was the women's tennis champ.
He continued this juvenile behavior in the studio and Everett asked him and then warned him not to call him Crissy. So, like the 14-year-old obnoxious squirt that Jimmy Rome is, he said it like twice. Then Jim Everett overturned the table and was on top of him until it was broken up. I think youtube has the clip.

I think Everett, like many, has a low tolerance for obnoxious, talky punks and I bet that manhandling similar to that of Everett happened to Jimmy many times in middle school.:)

And before I forget, I stopped listening when he starting making fun of people who had to live in trailer homes. Imagine, kids having to hear that kind of juvenile venom from a venel brat. Kids have a hard enough time coping emotionally. I just wonder what kind of people raised him.

:write: The thing is, he has moved on. And his juvenalia has also moved on with him. His bon mots are the stuff of high school and college. His interviewing is haphazard and delves into the insider youth culture, whish is cool, but exclusive to others.:enough:

Further, He has learned nothing from "the incident," which was a cold attempt to humiliate another human being on TV, and whether it was for ratings or some hate thing for Everett, it has stayed with him.

I like to listen to his radio show pretty often as well. I'm a fan of him.

Actually I thought it was hilarious that Everett thought he could bully Rome into not saying it again and then, on TV, had Rome show him that he wasn't in the least bit intimidated by him.

I thought that whole thing was hilarious. He got Jim so pissed that he actually tried to bully him and then, like the giant moron he was, got him to turn a chair over and act like a real tough guy.

It was hilarious.

I always thought Jim Everett was a punk and a sissy-but god I loved that he did what he said he would do to a guy being the ultimate tool.

Everett was never one of my favorites until I happened on to a Rams practice in Orange County. Preseason. Rams were tired after practice in a 3-hour Ground Chuck Knox session.

The last guy who stayed was Everett and he let some kids carry his helmet and shoulder pads and give his wrist bands to kids.
Ever since, to me, he's been what the NFL should strive for: decency, humor, humility, skill and getting up ever morning to give life a try.

On the other hand you have Rome.

Calling a guy names he doesn't like on live TV.. Immature.

Turning a table over and getting violent because of it.. seriously like 10x more immature. Extra immaturity added for fighting immaturity with immaturity. Everett is a bigger pos than Rome in that clip by FAR.

But /shrug that's in the past. Current Rome is rather enjoyable, not afraid to say what he means, even if people disagree with him, and I respect that, and a lot of the time (at least on his TV show, I've never heard his radio show) he's pretty well on (again, concerning football, I don't care about other sports).

I enjoy his Rome is Burning segment, and his interviews quite a bit. I also like his forum discussions.

I wonder if he talks in real life like he does on his show.

People still dislike Rome because of something that happened years ago over a player not even on the Cowboys.
