Jason Witten

I agree. Also is nice to have him run more than 3 yard routes.......but his role should be limited. I want to see more of Hanna and Swaim.

where do you guys come up with this nonsense like he only runs 3 yard routes.

He is open constantly. He runs most between 6 and 12 yards.

He was wide open for a 40 yard touchdown the opening week vs the giants but Dak threw it to dez.

Witten gets open and catches the ball, though he has I believe two drops this year he had zero last year.

I will never understand why some complain about witten?

I don't complain about Witten. I think Hanna should get more snaps. He's faster, younger and a better blocker.

If Cowboys fans want to call him the GOAT I won’t argue too strenuously. But I do wonder if there’s a single person outside of Cowboys Nation that would do so.

Anyway, he’s an all-time great even if calling him the GOAT may overstate things.
I have heard more than a few coaches, announcers elsewhere put him in that conversation.

It really depends on how you define TE. As regards the old pre Gronk time I think he is right there. Watching players like Casper from the 70's and so on. Now in todays NFL where you supposedly JUST want a big WR and not an all round true TE then no.

He made that catch look like way to easy. Greatness!!!

Doesnt need to start, we dont get medals for that, time for other tes to show what they have or draft more
Agreed. He's all-time great, and is still effective, but yesterday's catch doesn't change that it's time to find a new starting TE.

For those that think Witten is really slow...watch that clip and examine the strides of the safety trying to track him. Does the safety look like he's running slow?

I'm not saying Witten--at this age--is fast or was running away from him...but just go back and watch the clip.

Witten's a big guy w/big strides.

There's blazing 100 yard dash fast....

and then there's RED ZONE FAST. You don't NEED to cover 25-30 yards with blazing speed. You just need to make your cuts on your route inside a 20 yard area. And Witten is awesome at that. These smaller guys can't cover him.

They need to stop the jet sweeps and screens to Switzer. At this point, teams are keying in on that because that's all he's been brought in to do (Whitehead 2.0). They need him to spell Beasley a good 5-10 snaps a game and play true slot. Then and only then will the defenses play him honest enough and open the door for the Philly special (screen pass for YAC...boosting Wentz's YPA...sorry Risen Star).
Zeke had a long TD run with Switzer in motion.

I love me some Witten!! Guy has been a Cowboy since I was 23!!! That's crazy. Cowboy for life right there and deservedly so!!!

What cracks me up is people that say he lost a step. I've been reading that for at least 7-8 years now.

I'm surprised Witten can get around without a walker the way some describe him.

Actually, I think few teams want that, but it's what they get. Most of them are looking for Jason Wittens, but it's difficult to find a TE who is as much of a receiving threat as he has been throughout his career and still can block like the old-timers. It's kind of like the fullback position not being used as much anymore because there are not many Moose Johnson's around. If colleges were turning out all-around fullbacks like him, teams would be relying on fullbacks more than two-TE sets.

There's no question that most would call Tony Gonzalez the GOAT, and with good reason. There's no TE that holds a candle to Gonzalez as a receiver (Gates, Sharpe and perhaps others matched him at their peak but weren't as good for nearly as long).

Often, you'll hear announcers or others talk about Witten as the best "all-around" TE, and certainly he's been more of a blocker throughout his career than Gonzalez or, say, Gates or Sharpe, ever were (yes, he's been slipping lately). But it's a bit like saying Willie Mays was a better all-around player than Babe Ruth or Ted Williams: it's true that he was a much better fielder and baserunner than those guys, but Ruth and Williams were SO much better as hitters that it more than made up for those other things. Sometimes one dimension is all you need if that one dimension is good enough.

I'd probably stick with Gonzalez as #1 to Witten's clear #2, but it's awfully close.

(If Gronk can ever get over his health issues, he could easily force himself into the conversation, or just take it over.)

I remember people were bashing him after he came back from that injury (spleen). He dropped a few passes coming back from that injury and people said he was done. Fast forward 5 years....

Playing alot of wr growing up, I can respect that one handed catch in stride while the defender was grabbing his other arm (and also staying in bound). What a catch....
